3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 ounce bottle pours almost black, solid burned malt taste, kind of hoppy but missing something that would really make it pop, not bad but not really good

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. bottle thanks to Phatdog1. Dark brown nearly black color. White Head vanished quickly. Nose of coffee and burnt caramel. Hints of roasted barley. Really thin watery body with a thin texture.
Nothing really wrong with it but it needs something to make it stand out. And the body needs to be beefed up. Much better out there in terms of style.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a black color and the taste is forgettable. Very thin and not much to it. Very average for a "craft beer"

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle. Pours a medium, well retained light beige head, over a clear brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is light cereal grains, with roasted malt tones including cocoa chocolate, faint hints of rubber, minimal esters and hops.....taste is light cocoa, hints of chocolate, minimal esters, light hops with light bitter finish.....mouth feel light of medium, carbonation low with light acid finish. This needs to be maltier with more oomph in the malt backbone, and the light chemical aroma is off putting. BJCP 6/3/10/4/5

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
GumboBar, Galveston 12oz: Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is lightly roasted, somewhat chocolatey, and a bit of that slightly grainy lager smell. Taste is pretty similar. Slight bitterness. Restrained sweetness. Chocolate and roasted notes. OK.

3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Weak slight notes of wheat and nothing more.
Appearance: Black and amber hues
Taste: Fairly light mostly just kind of boring but it has a unique yet abrupt finish which is rather nice.
Palate: Garden verity in all regards
Overall: It is what something like Budweiser would taste like if it had any soul or value. It is somewhat interesting yet only somewhat. If you set your standard at something above mass produced uninspired trash it is not good nor bad just compliant. That said it is overall a nice entry if you want to get into beer that does not have Ads on TV, and lest face it if you are on this site chances are you are past that, recommend it to your "I only drink light!" friends.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
For a black lager, this reminded me a lot of a porter. Nice, thick palate and a taste that was all cream and coffee with a good bit of chocolate to boot. Don’t remember too much about it other than that I greatly enjoyed it and look forward to getting more now that it’s no longer at Oktoberfest and I can see straight again.

Great Dark beer Out of Texas. Served this after asking for ’the darkest beer in the biggest glass’ in San Antonio. Tastes much like a stout, all the dark roasty flavors without the alcohol finish. Never one for Black Lagers but Ugly Pug has become a regular in my drinking collection.
