scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 11, 2007
Dark brown, white creamy head. Nose held soft notes of toasted toffee and dark fruits, with lesser notes of spiced roasted marsmallow. Dark fruity malt flavors and hints of coffee and caramel lead the way from start to finish. Jjust a touch of balanced hop bitterness in the end, but the malt still wins out. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, malty finish. Nicely done...

Bottle courtesy of Cornfield. Thanks Carl!. Nice sweet aroma that portends of good things to come. Hint of high alcohol, in the nose but it is mostly hidden. Mostly opaque, very dark reddish brown with a thin off white ring. Not much lace. There wasnít much of a sound when I popped the cap, so I was leary of flatness. However, if I wasnít thinking that I wouldnít have noticed that it may be a little less carbonated than average. Nice, fairly well balanced flavor. Not much in the way of hops but the roasted malts and higher alcohol work well. A tasty brew. Not spectacular but no glaring flaws.

CaptainCougar (7132) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - APR 25, 2007
Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye: Pours a transparent dark copper with a thin ring of spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly toasted British malt and some mild earthy piny hops. Body starts fairly full and malty sweet with some mild butterscotch and toffee complexity. Nicely balanced and very drinkable.

Poured a clear golden chestnut color with a thin off-white head. Light caramel malt with light clovey spice. Mild alcohol notes. Malty flavor with mild fruit, just a hint of spice and light alcohol. Some sweetness. Fair amount of warmth. Some toasty aroma when this warmed. Medium bodied.

Medium brown pour with chestnut hues. Thin notions of a white head recede quickly, leaving an oily carbonated film behind. Mostly clear with ruby and yellowish highlighting. Aroma is comprised of lightly toasted caramel malt up front. No hint at high alcohol, well masked to say the least. Sugary, interesting. Light spicing, mostly coriander and nutmeg. A little soapy as well. Flavor is sweet and nutty caramel malts, grainy and toasty. Slight tartness, nice bitterness levels throughout. Slightly syrupy palate, too fizzy at points, but an otherwise reasonable carbonation level. Still not a trace of alcohol. An agressive fullness is left behind in a sugar finish. Pretty good balance here, other than in the palate.

Thanks to bu11zeye for this beer. Poured a dark mahogany with a small fizzy off-white head. Aroma of sweet nuts, fruits, and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is extremely smooth, with notes of sweet fruit, nuts, toffee, a bit of smoke. Alcohol is undetectable in the initial flavor and only shows up to balance out the finish. I could not believe this is 8%. It drinks like a refreshing session beer. Not the most complex beer Iíve had, but so well balanced, flavorful and drinkable that it really sat well with me. Could have downed two or there more of these (which is why itís probably a good thing I only had one at my disposal). A surprise treat from Texas that made my evening.

On draft at the Flying Saucer in Ft. Worth. Dark brown pour with small head. Caramel and malts in the nose. Big malty flavor, sweet caramel, brown sugar, and mild spice. Smooth bodied, full flavor. Nice winter brew.

12oz bottle via trade with legion242 - Thanks - Pous dark brown with a short creamy tan head. Aromas of caramel, yeast, toffee, toasted malts, and a whiff of chocolate. Flavor is caramel, toffee, toasted malts, chocolate and even a little coffee. Medium body with light carbonation. Really though this wasnít too bad...

Courtesy bu11zeye. Dark ruby brown and a small off white layer of foam. Nose of lightly toasted malt, english hops, and airy, bready yeast. Flavor adds toffee and cocoa. Medium body, balanced. Easy drinking, would never guess 8%. Decent.

Iíd like an ABV check on this one...it is virtually invisible, leading me to think it might be incorrectly derived. Very light- bodied brew with an emphasis on the malts and less so on the "holiday" spicing...thank goodness. Pretty refreshing malt bomb with some nuttiness in the finish. But virtually NO warming effect, making me think this might be more in the 4-5% range....but I like it! Thanks Corny!
