Pour is opaque maroonish brown with a dense off white head...smell is slightly unpleasant with some cabbage and stagnant water notes...taste is sweet and thin...toasted nuts mostly with a slight bitter vegetal finish...

Decent for Rahr, but not worth trading for. Smooth sweetish taste, that comes close to a strong dark. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A - Pours cola brown with 1 finger of tan head. S - Milk chocolate, sugary malt, vanilla, roasted malts. Smokey aroma as it warms. T - Dark caramel, roasted malts, caramelized sugar, bitter dark chocolate, brown toast, nutty yeast, hints of grapes and under-ripened berries. Bittering hops adds earthiness to round off the finish. Citrus comes out on the aftertaste. M - Moderate carbonation, light side of medium, almost thin body. No alcohol to speak of. The carbonation drops off toward the end. Warming without the alcohol showing up. Nice cocoa and roasted malts with a solid strain of nutty yeast to glue everything together. The mouthfeel was the weak link but it wasnít a deal breaker. Everything tasted young and fresh. Iím gonna try and out one away for a year or so. Serving type: bottle 11-19-2011

The body is a clear, dark brownish amber and the head consists of a film of bubbles that soon evaporates. Itís got a mild roasted malt aroma with burnt caramel and bitter nuts. Very thin and watery, which makes me surprized by the 8% ABV. The roasted malt continues into the flavor along with a light fruitiness and, finally, a touch of alcohol thatís acompanied by some earthy nuts. I almost like this and would probably drink it again.

Poured deep brown/red with no head.Carbonation??? where was it. Aromas of malt and burbon. Thin body with flavors of malt and a little bit of hops. Not feelin this beer at all. The only good quality about this one is how it hides the 8%ABV!

Pours a reddish ruby brown in the glass with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet and toasted with some alcohol aroma. Taste leaves a little to be desired and the beer is a little thin. Though I must say, this is by far the best beer Iíve tried from the brewer.

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2009 Pours with a largish, rocky, light brown head covering a mahogany body. Nutty aroma with cinnamon, and nutmeg highlights. Spicy, nutty, sweet, and watery taste. Fizzy and dry mouthfeel. Reminds me more of a brown ale than a english strong.
Having now had this on cask, it is a decent beer, but nothing too incredible. Could have been soo much better.

This beer look like a beer should when you pour it in a beer glass. Its 80% opaque brown malt colored with a 1 inch beige head that settles to a 1/8" faster than id prefer. The aroma is clean and has notes of spring water and clove. The flavor is heavy with heavily toasted, roasted, almost burnt malt, and clove. Appeal is smooth and easy. Lacing is light on the glass. Finish is spicy and malty. Tastes good when its 68 in your house and 105 outside.
