heemer77 (3632), Savannah, Missouri, USA May 5, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. The body was rusty, ruddy brown. The aroma was smoky and earthy. There were mushrooms and bread crust. The taste lightly earthy with some caramel and bread. A thin body, but this is good for the style. Skyview (2768), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jul 2, 2007 Available on tap at the brewpub, this beer pours a clear dark amber brew with a light beige creamy head with good retention. Aroma has characteristics of caramel roasted malt, a touch of peat smoke, and some light toffee. Taste is lightly carbonated, with taste of smoked caramel malt and no bitterness. Finish is sweet, soft and creamy. I agree with one other posting, this is more of a Scotch-style than scottish ale. keoki182 (298), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Jun 20, 2007 On tap at the Rail House. Nice deep red/amber color, good thick off-white head. Rich malty nose, some caramel too. Flavor was nothing too impressive but still quite satisfying. More like a Scotch-style than a Scottish....malts dominated taste and nose. This was really a beautiful looking ale though. Sessionable. Paulsdrsrdrs (5), Birmingham, Alabama, USA does not count Aug 14, 2006 Mothers milk? No, this is better, much better. The finest example of Scottish Ale as I’ve ever had. I have been back numerous times and this beer has never failed me. Enticing roasted coloring, Sensous chocolate/malty aroma, Full unfiltered scotch malt flavor with a perfect finish that leaves the tongue with a satisfying smack to the roof of the mouth. robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Nov 13, 2005 Brewer Compares This to an 80 Shilling. Dark Brown Colorig with Sandy Large Bubbly Head. Dry Malt...Dusty. Dry Hops Ending. Tasted Muddled and Unbalanced.
