Railhouse Mastiff Oatmeal Stout is a variation of the sweet stout but has oatmeal added to increase the fullness of body and flavor and to make a more “nutritious” Stout. The result of this mixture is a firm, smooth, silky light body, and a hint of nuttiness in a complex of coffee, chocolate, and roast flavors. Double hopped for bitterness and flavor with US Goldings.

Robust coffee and chocolate aromas. Deep black with no head. Sweet rich roasted malt. Full bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel and a smooth finish.

Another disappointing stout. Been drinking imperials lately so maybe I just don’t remember what a normal stout should taste like...but I’m pretty sure it’s not quite like this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Now that I'm more familiar with stouts, I'm less sure about this brew. A good average dark, roasty, coffee, chocolate, standard stout, etc. but texture is a bit off, and there's a sweetness contrast that seems out of place. Almost like a milk stout, not sure what impact the oatmeal is having. Either way it's good overall, unusual enough that although I didn't care for it, I'd say give it a try.

I like big dogs and oatmeal stouts, so how can I not want to try this beer. It pours from the bottle with a good, dark, cola-brown color, but there is next to no foam. The aroma is subtly sweet and simultaneously roasty. The flavor similarly has a noticeable earthy roast contrasted against a creamy, lactose-like sweetness, making this beer taste like some kind of hybrid between a dry Irish stout and a milk stout. Much like an Irish stout, though, the texture is smooth, light, and almost creamy. Overall, the light body of this beer makes it go down easy, but the complex combination of roast and sweetness asks to be sipped and savored, making the beer seem a bit confused.

Oh, how I love oatmeal stouts!! This local brew was a pretty good one! It is always good to have local breweries that can produce good quality beers!

Very nice "under the top" stout. Pours dark with low creamy head. Nose has chocolate and vanilla, but taste is combination of dark roasted coffee and mildly bitter chocolate. Load of oatmeal calms it all down and leaves a nice finish. Medium not thick mouth feel. Very drinkable and pleasant.

Pours dark almost black color, small head, nice lacing. Strong aroma of chocolate and vanilla with some coffee, caramel and cinnamon notes. Quite low in carbonation, thick body. Taste is somewhat bitter, sweet and sour, which is not very "stouty". Bitter finish.

Bottle shared at the Foothills Sexual Chocolate pre-release party. Pours light brown. Slight bubble gum sweetness and roasted nut notes. Surprisingly weak on the chocolate and coffee notes. Very little stout going on here. The sugary sweetness doesn’t go with whatever else is going on here.

Bottle. To much of a tart sour flavor. Just not to my liking. Not terrible but not that good either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 12 oz bottle shared in Avon NC on New Year’s Eve. Pours a clear cola brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted nuts. Flavors of licorice and some coffee notes. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, creamy finish.
