3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Canned 473ml in OCB Discoverer. Cloudy golden with big foamy head that disappears oh too quickly. Decent hoppy aroma with some fruits- peach and appricot. taste is malty, cookie doughy, and hoppy enough for a decent IPA. Pretty good stuff.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cannette 473 ml. 6.55. Couleur ambrée, mousse beige pâle. Arôme de malt caramel, herbes et toffee. En bouche, malt, caramel, un peu de houblon. Plus une Pale Ale qu’une IPA. Bonne.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Originally written for the Spring 2010 issue of TAPS Magazine.) When sending in beer for review, it’s standard practice for breweries to provide TAPS with several bottles for each writer in case of breakage or other problems. Normally, this precautionary measure proves to be unnecessary, but with Dead Elephant Ale, I was glad to have three bottles to try, since the first one I opened seemed to have been hit with a heavy dose of diacetyl, giving the beer an unpleasant strong buttery character. The other two bottles, however, contained an enjoyable ale with a burnished orange body, creamy white head, and aromas and flavours of tropical fruit, caramel and fresh citric hops. I’d like to see a bit more body, and perhaps a touch of restraint in the finish where the hops are a bit astringent, but it’s still a nice pint. I’ll just have to hope that the butter bomb I found in bottle number one was an anomaly.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a very nice golden colour with a orange-white head. The beer is not BAD but it is very unbalanced. It is bitter but thin, and it’s aftertaste leaves to be desired. Not really worth it.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep golden colour. Thin head. The aroma doesn’t have much hop at all. There’s light pale fruits, but they are subtle and indistinct. Earthy palate. Lots of fuggles maybe, still only maybe 45 IBUs. That’s pretty light. The malts are mostly light biscuity stuff and a bit syrupy. Basically a golden ale. Needs way more hop and a much brighter character. Will disappoint anyone expecting an IPA.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can: Poured a golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light bitter hops with dry malt notes. Taste is a light mix of subtle bitter hops with a medium-sweet malt backbone. Body is about average with good carbonation. This one is seriously lacking a hop punch.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Gold-copper body with okay head that’s gone just too fast. Sampled at 13.4 celcius. Soft aroma of malts with some hoppy finishes on the back end. Flavour is a lot of maltiness with a dry hoppy finish. Okay mouthfeel, a little fake lager-ish though. Nice and well balanced.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Draft at kingston brewing. Warm gold. Aroma is sloppy. Fruit salad, muddled. Skanky. Thin. Toasty finish. But highly disappointing.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
From can, opaque amber with an orange hue. Floral aroma, fresh duey grass. Predominant hop flavor, chewy bitterness, maybe some light nuttiness.not excessively carbonated was appreciated. Went down well.
