4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’m an afficionado of stouts and porters. I don’t care for ales because of the sweetness, but this is the first exception. Despite the retarded and sickening name which put me off completely, I was attracted to the pretty gold colour, like some of my fave whiskies or liqueurs ( but we are not pretentious snobs so who cares about looks really?) What initially sucked me in was the unusual vanilla presence in the grapefruit bouquet. Furthermore I was surprised by the full bodied taste of this feisty 6.5% beer. Couldn’t believe such a gem came out of Ontario. Neat!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 29, 2011 Draught sample at the Toronto Food and Wine show. Golden pour, with a decent white head, minimal lacing. Tastes of hops and a small amount of grain.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This IPA poured a cloudy amber colour with a nice, big, bright white frothy head. to the nose there are scents of hopps, pineapple, spruce and juniper with beef stew and dough too. First sip was nice and smooth with nice bitterness with flavours of hopps not overdone. Flavours of citrus adn spruce with a bitterish finish with the hop flavour lasting awhile.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A hazed orange amber alew oth a thick frothy light moka head. In aroma, a very herbaceous hops, lightly infected, but with some Fantome qualities, sweet fruity esters, quite nice. In mouth, a sweet malt with with nice hops, light grapefruits, again, very Belgian esters. Surprising. Thanks Karl.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at C’est What in Toronto, served in an English pint glass. Pours clear golden with a small white head. The head fades quickly to a thin cover but leaves behind lots of loose lace. The nose has aromas of pine and citrus, along with flowers, caramel and pale malt. The flavour is sweet caramel up front with light fruits and cookieish malts. It soon dries out and hops take over, imparting an intensely bitter flavour. The finish is long and hoppy. On the palate, it is medium in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a reasonable pale ale with a strong hop presence. It is a little one-dimensional, however. The malts could be more prominent to achieve better balance. 2010-12-10

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hopy hopy hopy.
Again, I am not sure what I expected when I bought this. But it exceeded expectations.
In my book this beer is much better than many ales out there, worth the extra buck.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
A decent hop smell, however this beer tastes like a dead elephant. It has an initial hops taste that may seem good and then it becomes bland and unsatisfying.

Sweet malt aroma. Orange gold with foamy white head that laces as it thins. Sweet, fruity, malt taste.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pale golden pour. Creamy white head. The nose is a little bit sweet with a touch of light orange peel and some orange blossom honey. The palate is fairly sweet with mostly pale ale malt. Sweet and a little bit doughy - especially as it starts to warm up. Dirty phenolics on the back of the palate along with a kind of indistinct orange peel hoppiness. Fusely and crappy. These guys have some serious yeast control issues.
