4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’m an afficionado of stouts and porters. I don’t care for ales because of the sweetness, but this is the first exception. Despite the retarded and sickening name which put me off completely, I was attracted to the pretty gold colour, like some of my fave whiskies or liqueurs ( but we are not pretentious snobs so who cares about looks really?) What initially sucked me in was the unusual vanilla presence in the grapefruit bouquet. Furthermore I was surprised by the full bodied taste of this feisty 6.5% beer. Couldn’t believe such a gem came out of Ontario. Neat!

Strong ale. Very sharp hops. Definitely good for a nice strong winter beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2010 1.9L growler thanks to Jimmay, thanks man! Pours a nice bright gold with a large rocky beige head. The aroma is some melon with piney hops riding on smoke which seems to work somehow. Nice. Flavour starts out very astringent and dry on the palate, nice hoppy bitterness and citrus, making way for the unintended smokey element which I find somehow fits and actually compliments the hops. Huh, weird, go figure, I’m enjoying this infamous off flavour from this brewery. Really decent biscuity malt backbone but this one is all about the hops and the smoke. I really like it, this is a very tasty beer and I wish I had more than just one growler!

This was a pleasant surprise. Light in the nose, cereal/grass predominating. Nice amber pour with moderate carbonation. Very full, rounded palate, nicely bitter but not overpowering. Overall I would definitely buy again - really good introduction to a brewery I hadn’t heard of before. Kudos!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2014 tap/can. I first tasted this beer at The Chatham Ribfest on tap which, as all good things do it ran out first. Poured hazy orange-amber with a creamy off-white head. Floral hop aroma. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Malty, flavours of rye bread, tart grapefruit. Finish is a bit sticky with pine and more hops. Lingering aftertaste.

Acheté LCBO -Atrium on Bay-Toronto. Golden, Mild malt aroma with fleural tropical fruit arome. Bon gout de fruits sucrés, apricot, mangue, finale hoopy pamplemousse. Je l’ai acheté à cause de la pochette pis du nom...Ils ne marquent pas IPA sur la pochette...Huge surprise, un bel effort pour ces Ontario.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2012 Smells good - grassy hops, very pale, with a hoppiness that lingers nicely. This ale seems to have improved over the past year or so.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Clear orange golden, thick frothy 2 finger head endures, good clarity.
Aroma: Floral and citrus hops dominate, and some fusel alcohol notes (positive), toasted baguette in the background.
Flavour: Lovely citrusy profile, with a nice bready malt flavour to balance.
Mouthfeel: Nice bite from the hops, moderate carbonation that cuts the finish short but then a lovely bitter alcohol aftertaste lingers. One of the best IPAs I’ve had. Had with pizza and the pairing was magnificent. Bitterness of the beer cut the richness of the cheese, I was literally in heaven.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
How the heck can this beer only have a 3.2 average???
Pours a delicious manuka honey orange with a big frothy white head.
The aroma at first biscuity, with notes of melon, but then dominated by hops, grapefruit, pine, and as JesseM mentioned, some smoke, which I noticed seems to be an overlooked element.
The flavour is delivers the goods, lots of delicious hop notes, grapefruit being the most prominent, balanced by a good strong malty biscuit base, with some lingering notes of smoke in the finish.
I think some people should revisit this beer, it really deserves a much higher rating.
