GregClow (2350), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 29, 2008 Growler sample at 2008 Golden Tap Awards. Dark ruby-amber with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavour hold caramelly malt notes with some fruitiness, a bit grainy, and a subtly hopped finish. Simple, balanced, drinkable - not the most exciting beer, but a good session ale. blankboy (2625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 22, 2008 Brown plastic bottle from brewery shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a deep ruby-orange with a small diminishing off-white head. Aroma: What th’!? It has some "bottle" or "metal" in the aroma but it’s in a plastic bottle...weird. Along with that, there’s some faint vomit, some sugary sweetness and a hint of sourness -- what’s going on here? Flavour’s no better, it’s sour, metallic and has that faint puke again. Gah. Average bodied. Wow, I liked the other beers from this brewery but unless we had a bad bottle, this is total garbage. HogTownHarry (3273), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 28, 2008 Draught. At Volo. Had to triple-check, this was so dark, but apparently the amber is darker than the copper - whatever. THIS ONE ... bright clear deep ruby with an average creamy beige head. Sweet aroma, reminds me a little of cola syrup, with perhaps a bit of grassiness in with the sorta roast malt. Taste - same, with hints of toffee and light herbal bitterness - but there was the almost "extract-y" tang to it that whispered "homebrew" to me. Average, slightly sryupy body, a little flat and the cola syrup character returned in the aftertaste. Borderline okay, but I won’t have it again. I liked the blonde better jerc (3217), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2008 2008-08-23. Very nice pour with a very dark ruby brown body and a very small tan head. (3+) Milt malty aroma has a tang to it. (6+) Flavour is similarly sweet malt, light roast malt touches almost like a brown ale, light tang. Smooth average to medium palate is on the flat side, presumably from the growler being opened repeatedly. Decent, but lacks depth, the tangy note to the malt is a bit off-putting. Growler, Golden Tap Awards, Toronto
mabel (1662), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2008 [1626-20080823] Bottle. Toasted grains aroma has a hint of sweat and weird plastic notes. Clear, dark red brown body with quick white bubbles. Grainy bready toast flavour. Medium body. Interesting grainy characteristics.
