Countbeer (3665) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 14, 2012
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Big and vast, beige creamy tan head disappears slow and leaves a black beer with a medium head.
Smell is interesting: bay leaf, some liquorice, yeast, hint of wood, hint of roasted malts, hint of manure, some (toasted) nuts, butter milk, light sour and after a while there is some light notes of whiskey that comes through.
Taste liquorice, a herby bed of whiskey flavours, some hops, bitters, floral, roasted barley malts, liquorice tones, light sour touch, hint of alcohol and some berries.
Aftertaste is a mix of bitterness, some lightly roasted barley malts, spices, grass and woody hay.
Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller body and light creamy texture. Nice beer, bit complex, tasty but let it breath first!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Murky red brown color with a huge lightly creamy fair lacing beige head. Smell malts, slightly peat, slightly whisky, a hint of smoke. Taste malts, lightly alcohol, roastyness, slightly peat, slightly smoke and a nice bitterness. Quite nicely balanced. Again Ramses has delivered imo. Good carbonation, medium to full body. This brewer really is underestimated. Great stuff.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sold as 33cl bottle ’Shire Stout Whisky Barrel’ and without wood as listed ingredient; at 9.6% abv. Hazy brown body and huge bubble creamy tan head. Looks like the other wood aged (Eiken) variant. A much smoother aroma though, with a nice bourbon tone over a rounded, nutty malt base, vanilla and clean and very present hop profile. Bit acidic, surprisingly, but I actually like it. The kind of malty funk as in De Molen’s Lief & Leed. Not sure if it’s supposed to be there... but it works. (33cl bottle from De Bierwinkel Leiden)

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @ Home. Pours dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, cocunut, peat, whisky. Flavor of malts, wood, peat, whisky, booze. Thin body, lively carbonation, alcoholic fininsh. Pretty nice aroma, but flavor way to heavy on whisky and gets to boozy. 170812

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle # home (live rating). Dark red-brown color. Off-white to beige head. Aroma’s: Oak, bit of vanilla, bit whisky, retronasal also roasted & malts (and some more whisky). Flavor a bit roasted bitter, a slight sweetness and has wood-tones all over. Warms the throat. Medium body. Finishes with some roast, more oak and a firm bitterness. Possibly been a bit too long on wood, but a nice attempt anyway, seems to get better with every sip

Bottle from abcbeers in the hague shared with kermis.
Thick white head. Deep ruby pour. More whiskey than the previous brew. Better than the 2011 version.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bierkoning. Dark black with foamy tan head. Nose is stout, peat and plenty of whiskey. Very inviting. Taste is malts, wood, vanilla and coffee, with plenty of notes of whiskey again. Very creamy and smooth. A really, really nice beer. Ramses has really impressed me. This is nothing like their normal Shire Stout.
