Cask at Artilery Arms - Ramsgate. Very dark in colour with a nice cream/tan head. Quite viscous with a lovely creaminess. Chocolate and christmas cake and a little bit of smokiness. Stunning beer.

Cask at The Wellington, Birmingham. Dark red-black with a good short head. Earthy, sulphuric scent. Watery and slightly bitter. Nutty, earthy and slightly sulphuric in the mouth. OK but not great.

Cask, Leicester Fest 07. Dark red/bropwn with a beige head. Aromas are sweet, earthy roast malts with winter fruit and some smokiness. Flavours are malty and light with a good roast character. Some citrus towards the finish. OK.

A Mes rate: Cask at some random Kentish pub somewhere. Red brown colour with a slight tan head and lots of lace. Distinct Sarsons malt vinegar nose with more of the same in the flavour plus a little cherry. Very long medicinal and hoppy finish. Palate is almost a four but like the rest of the beer it’s just not quite there.

Eddie does brew a good dark ale! Not quite Dog, or the Escape, (exodus)! Very middle of the road, mid dark, mid aroma, mid this - mid that - I had hoped for more. Sorry Ed.
