COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Creamy head smooth carbonation complements its deep mahogany color. Bouquet teems with chocolate, apple and clove. Roasted malts intertwine with the Tettnanger hops to create a depth of complex flavors. Smooth roasted malts and dark caramel leads to clean finish - unlike any other dark beer.

Pours brown with nose of earthy malt, caramel, roasty, hops. Tastes rich, complex, with earthy, some nutty, and cacao notes. Very nice, as with all the Ramstein offerings.

Pours brown with a film of tan bubbles. Smells of alcohol and toffee. Tastes is very rich with cherries, grapes, nuts, and some of that alcohol popping up. The alcohol is surprisingly prevelant, though not enough for alcohol burn. Rich caramel candy finish. Unusual but tasty!

Vinous aroma allows much more alcohol through than I’d anticipate for this style. It comes out in a phosphoric, minty and anise like foreground that quickly reminds of a strong roasty tea with notes of cloves. Body is very dark, schwarzbier like, but the little off-white head dissipates quickly. Biting carbonation doesn’t last long. Once again, a surprisingly fruity and vinous flavor, nutty, alcoholic and not quite to my liking in its balance despite the rather vast array of esters and malt nuances.

Growler (actually a plastic yeast jug) from the brewery. Ripe banana, clove and chocolate malt aroma. Hazy dark brown with nice big head. Ripe banana, clove and chocolate malt flavor. Very nice body - just a tad on the light side. A spectacular dunkelweizen. Truly nailed the style.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2004 Bottle pours murky burnt caramel with a small frothy off-white head.   Quite dark for a wheat, must be a Dunkles Hefe.   No visible carbonation, lacing seems exceptional.   Aroma is heavy on banana, bread, and some minor spicing.   Up front it feels a tad thin for a German Hefe, but the flavor is there.   Definately not one that weighs you down.   Middle is wheaty, of dark bread, with some banana and cloves.   Finish tends to fall off a bit too quickly.   Tiz decent, especially on a hot day and when you needn't worry about getting too full from other German Hefes.   Thanks goes out to TChrome for the trade!

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, light chocolate, slight spice, light whet, and a hint of clove. Poured deep orange/brown in color with a small, tan head that disappeared except for around the edges. Hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of wheat, light chocolate, slight spice, and a hint of roasting. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Wheat, chocolate, and roast finish is dry.
