Danish: Klassisk tysk Schwarzbier.

Stefano (1794) - Esbjerg, DENMARK - SEP 15, 2008
Draught at EBF 2008. From tap as Randers Sort. Black coloured beer with cremy white brown little head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt and coffee notes. Sweet, coffee, roasted, chocolate, hint of licorice. Medium body, bit sandy. More like a porter than a schwarzbier. Some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Found two versions with different labels and barcodes, one titled Bryg No. 008a, the other Bryg No. 008b. Rating them simultaneous:

Bryg No. 008a – 7 / 3 / 7 / 3 / 12
Bottle. 5.5%. No best before date. Pours black with a diminishing khaki head. Sweetish roasted aroma, stout-like. Flavour is sweetish and roasted, with a light berry-like tartness. Bitter, roasted coffee finish with a sweet note. Coffee bitterness lingering as well as a tart note. Overall decent. 23.03.13.

Bryg No. 008b – 6 / 3 / 6 / 3 / 11
Bottle. 5.5%. Best before 10.13. Pours black with a diminishing khaki head, a bit darker than the 008a and more fluffy. Sweetish roasted aroma, slightly tart and with a metallic note. Tart, sweet roasted flavour with a light greasy overtone. Finish is dry and roasted with lingering notes of coffee and grass. Overall okay, if a bit cloying. 23.03.13.

Overall, although pretty similar, the 008a is a bit better than the 008b; more balanced and just a bit better aroma and flavour, and also more on the stout-side, although both seems closer to a stout than a schwarzbier. The 008b has more sweetness to it and a slightly greasy palate, which makes it a bit cloying.

Unclear deep brown colur. Roasty caramel and roasty malt in aroma with some dark fruits. Pleasant mouthfeel. The flavour has a good roasty maltiness and caramel with some dark fruits and a good bitterness.
