2/24/12. Bottle at the brewery during RBWG 2012. A nice subtle, but apparent smokiness in the aroma with some sweetness as well with a touch of bubblegum. Slightly sweet caramel flavor with nice subtle smokiness and touches of wood. There’s also a nice presence of chocolate and a touch of roast to cut the smokey sweetness. Nice!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 unclemike (1925) - Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA - FEB 15, 2012
Bottle; poured a dark, cola brown with a small off white head. Aroma of smoked malt, leather, meat, and bean and bacon soup. Definitely an acquired taste; would have never liked this a year ago. For the amount of smoky flavor, it is pretty easy drinking. Some sweetness and meat, but not the most complex version of the style

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dimenhetfield (2378) - , Florida, USA - DEC 18, 2011
Bottle shared with some friends. Here’s the problem with this one: I was drinking Rogue Voodoo right before this one in the same glass and didn’t properly clean out the glass so the whole thing smelled of maple syrup and I can trust me instinct in knowing that there probably isn’t much maple in this beer to begin with. But it was tasty

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Exellent retention. The fantastically smoky aroma offers an afterthought of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is sweet, chocolaty and smoky. Finishes crisp, chocolaty and lightly sweet. Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy!
