Influenced by the classic Bamberg rauchbiers, our Mesquite Smoked Porter is brewed with a Texas twist, using malt smoked in-house over Texas mesquite. This dark mahogany porter has a velvety mouthfeel, and a roasty, dark chocolate flavor balanced with a subtle hop spice. The nose is warm and pleasing with aromas of cured meat, pepper, leather, dark roast coffee, and a distinct mesquite wood aroma. The Mesquite-Smoked Porter’s medium body, rich complex taste of roasted grains, coffee, dark chocolate, and meaty, smoky character make this perfect for any Texas day, be it the cold of winter, or the accompaniment to a summer barbecue.

Courtesy of dcschiller. It pours mahogany with a tall rocky tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sort of smoky, sort of dusty and also sort of off-ness. Hmm? The taste is prickly with carbonation giving up roasted malts, molasses, a mild level of smoke and some tartness. It end with dark roasted malts as well as coffee and an odd off-putting tartness.

Thanks to the kind soul that shared this at the last Tampa Weekly Tasting. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Nose is earth, campfire, coal, and dark chocolate. Flavor is similar- woody smoke, earth, coal, and some chocolate up front with smoke and earth lingering around into the finish. Nice blend of smoke and porter. Medium in body and pretty nice.

batch 007 courtesy of Kaggie97 via coldbrewky. deep dark oily black with ruby edges. Foamy tan head with amazing retention. Faint smoke and pepper in the nose bound by an inviting element of roast. Taste falls in order with a big but silky body. Sweet smoke lingers. What a treat.

This was our third installment of the Texas beer roundup I had yesterday in my dining room with UDBeernut. Batch 007 11.9.11. Semi-buzzed rambling to the brewery over a discussion that I realy need to get me one of them there smart phones. My folks were up visiting as well this weekend. Ma stated that this "is like liquid smoked cheese...great cheese" as she reached for the bomber and helped herself. Go Ma! Tingle on the gums biting. Slate black with brown tone. Oily head. Spectacular lacing. Smokey gentle nose. Spectacularly rounded and robust in body. I get light pepper nearing the finish. Other than that this silky smooth beer was clearly the leader of the day. a Solid, benchmark porter. Yeah!

My first impression was based upon the mug full of foam, which wasn’t that big of a deal. It only meant it would take a while before I could drink it and this happened with every pour. The smell was predominantly malt with a small hint of smokiness. The mesquite smoke was much more prevalent in the mouth, however. Nothing spectacular about the palate but the color was cool in that I couldn’t see light pass through. Overall, a pleasant beer I would try again albeit not my favorite for this style.
