COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Influenced by the classic Bamberg rauchbiers, our Mesquite Smoked Porter is brewed with a Texas twist, using malt smoked in-house over Texas mesquite. This dark mahogany porter has a velvety mouthfeel, and a roasty, dark chocolate flavor balanced with a subtle hop spice. The nose is warm and pleasing with aromas of cured meat, pepper, leather, dark roast coffee, and a distinct mesquite wood aroma. The Mesquite-Smoked Porter’s medium body, rich complex taste of roasted grains, coffee, dark chocolate, and meaty, smoky character make this perfect for any Texas day, be it the cold of winter, or the accompaniment to a summer barbecue.

Bottle, birthday present from beerandbeyond. Big foamy tan head above opaque dark brown body. Sweet, nutty, delicate smoke and a little grass-hop aroma, wooden, smoky, bitter, hickory and a little bittersweet chocolate taste. Heavy body, fizzy, a little malty finish. Good.

bottle, pours black with a thick and very tall tan head. Aroma is obvious smoke, roast, wet wood, leather. Flavor is nice and semi-sweet cocoa upfront with big dry roast and smoke ending with a very dry mouthfeel. I really like this stuff.

Black pour with tan head and lace. Smokey, peaty, and roasted malt aroma. Mellow smoky, toasted malt, and a good malt bitter and some earthy hops. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

2/24/12. Bottle at the brewery during RBWG 2012. A nice subtle, but apparent smokiness in the aroma with some sweetness as well with a touch of bubblegum. Slightly sweet caramel flavor with nice subtle smokiness and touches of wood. There’s also a nice presence of chocolate and a touch of roast to cut the smokey sweetness. Nice!

Bottle; poured a dark, cola brown with a small off white head. Aroma of smoked malt, leather, meat, and bean and bacon soup. Definitely an acquired taste; would have never liked this a year ago. For the amount of smoky flavor, it is pretty easy drinking. Some sweetness and meat, but not the most complex version of the style

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2012 22oz. Bottle (Bottled 6/1/11. Batch 005).: EXTREME GUSHER! Lost more than half the bottle to gush! Aroma of malt, chocolate, slight pepper, oats, and nuts. Poured very dark brown in color with a large, creamy, oatmeal/brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Very sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, chocolate, nuts, a hint of smoke, and slight caramel. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, chocolate, slight smoke, finish is light to medium sweet.

Bottle shared with some friends. Here’s the problem with this one: I was drinking Rogue Voodoo right before this one in the same glass and didn’t properly clean out the glass so the whole thing smelled of maple syrup and I can trust me instinct in knowing that there probably isn’t much maple in this beer to begin with. But it was tasty

Deep brown, almost black in color with a nice tan head. Campfire burning wood aroma and taste with a medium bodied roast body underneath. Nice that the smoke isnt overwhelming!

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Exellent retention. The fantastically smoky aroma offers an afterthought of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is sweet, chocolaty and smoky. Finishes crisp, chocolaty and lightly sweet. Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy!
