Influenced by the classic Bamberg rauchbiers, our Mesquite Smoked Porter is brewed with a Texas twist, using malt smoked in-house over Texas mesquite. This dark mahogany porter has a velvety mouthfeel, and a roasty, dark chocolate flavor balanced with a subtle hop spice. The nose is warm and pleasing with aromas of cured meat, pepper, leather, dark roast coffee, and a distinct mesquite wood aroma. The Mesquite-Smoked Porter’s medium body, rich complex taste of roasted grains, coffee, dark chocolate, and meaty, smoky character make this perfect for any Texas day, be it the cold of winter, or the accompaniment to a summer barbecue.

A: The beer pours a very dark brown color, almost black, with a rather tall khaki colored head. S: Definitely gives off sort of a mesquite/barbeque feel to it. Lots of roast and smoke with a fair amount of char to go with it. Mild chocolate with some hints of licorice and just a touch of sweetness. T: Smoke, roasted malt, and coffee are all strong flavors. There’s a slight toffee sweetness sweetness to it along with a light metallic note. A touch of earthy hops and bitterness with a light acidity coming through on the finish. M: Medium bodied with a rather high level of carbonation for a porter. O: Smelled pretty decent, but the flavor was a bit off, unfortunately.

Bomber from ericandersnavy. Pours pretty black with a five finger creamy tan head. The aroma is smoked chocolate. Med+ body with frothy creamy carb. Flavor is really wood smoke with a lot of dark chocolate. Imagine a steak cooked over mesquite and then rolled in shaved chocolate? Minus the blood. It’s almost beefy. Finishes pretty much as it starts. Except maybe a little coffee is detectable. Damn good beer.

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Exellent retention. The fantastically smoky aroma offers an afterthought of dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is sweet, chocolaty and smoky. Finishes crisp, chocolaty and lightly sweet. Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy!
