3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the Houston Flying Saucer. Solid black and cloudy with a bubbly medium-tan head and some nice lacing. The nose is a little smoky with light meaty tones alongside chocolate. Flavor opens with sweet caramel and chocolate, then shifts into a sort of porky smokiness. Medium-sweet overall with a solid body. The mesquite is definitely an interesting change of pace from normal smoked beers, and it works very well with this malt profile. Definitely not too smoky or bacony - this seems to be a fine-tuned recipe.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a solid black with a foamy brown head and lacing. It has an aroma of dark malt and smokey mesquite, and a similar flavor profile that includes a slight tobacco backbone and a long, sweet finish over a medium, slightly fizzy body.

Bottle - Sweet wood and bacony smoke, dark and rich malts. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Raisin, molasses, smoke and a bit of a vinous, peaty almost acidic finish. Very nicely done.

Dark brown, tan creamy head and smoky flavor. All the flavors blend perfectly, the chocolate, coffee, roasted flavor and the smoky part are all great. Definitely will buy again

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle in a teku. Pours near black with a beige head. Aroma of light roast, a little smokiness, some metallic notes, a little dough, light bitterness, and some barbecue notes. Flavor not the best mixture of these. Average texture. Not the best beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strong oaky, smoked aroma. A wet leather sensibilty.Liquid beef jerky. Lacy head. Thick like a Turkish coffee, Strong, bold and robust. It has an after taste that lingers in your belly with a warmth. By no means is this a brew to be drunken quickily. For such a low ABV it feels more boozy than it is. Itís meant to be enjoyed slowly in winter. I think it has been advertised as a year round brew but I think it should be released in the thick of winter. Given that this is a complex beer. I totally enjoyed it for that fact. I would dare not drink this in the heat of summer!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber compliments of crajun. First pour resulted in a glassful of foam. After a rinse, poured again at a much slower rate. Still a giant fizzy tan head. Giant nose of smoke and jerky. Crazy carbonation leaves a tingle on the tongue. Nice flavor of roasty malt, sweet beef jerky, campfire with some coffee in the background. I donít want to say that the bottle was infected, but something was seriously off with the carbonation & feel of this brew, delicious nonetheless!

Location: 22 oz bottle from Central Market, 10/1/13, Batch 014, Dated 7/17/13, Rater #100 of this beer!
Aroma: The nose is full of smoked meat, some charred wood, coffee/roast, and chocolate notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a fizzy light brown head and some drippy lace
Flavor: Tastes much the same, heavy smoked meat/malts, a little roast, and a mild bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, it has a rather fizzy carbonation, and a smokey finish
This is a pretty tasty smoked porter and one of the better examples of the style I can recall trying. My only qualm, and itís a small one, is that the beer is completely over-carbonated. This is the first thing I have had from Ranger Creek, and these guys did a really nice job with this one. If this is any indication of their skill level, look forward to trying more beers from them.
