COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Texas Farmhouse Ale is a traditional Wallonian-style saison brewed with spelt that has been smoked over 4 Texas fruit woods. The use of peach, apricot, apple and plum woods add a subtle smokiness and light fruit texture to the earthy-sweet spelt, and marries well with the complexities of the Belgian farmhouse yeast. Earthy, peppery spice, herbal notes, soft ripe fruitiness and light smoke phenols come from fermenting at high temperatures and create a deep, refreshing character. Highly attenuated for a quenching dryness, this traditional saison is an esoteric seasonal that’s made for the Texas summer months.

Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours a cloudy straw yellow with fizzy white head. Aroma has hints of farmhouse, grass, citrus, just a bit of vegitable and earthy. Flavor is very much the same with a bit more kick that includes a graininess with hints of white pepper and very Smokey. Light-medium mouthfeel with spritzy carbonation. Overall, solid stuff!!!

Bottle thanks to Hopper. Pour is a very hazy copper cold, with a lasting billowing white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing. Kinda muddy looking with lots of carbonation. Aroma is quite nice: lots of white fruit, light pepper, slightly burnt white sugar, cool mix of phenolics and floral sweetness. Slightly grassy and herbal/bitter green veggies. I actually really dig this aroma, which opens up to a bit more smoke it warms. Unfortunately, the taste really falls flat. Starts with muddled smokiness, moving to flat metallic tones. Fruit and pepper present in the nose just doesn’t come through. Too bad. Slightly thin. Just ok. EDIT: OK as this warms up closer to room temp, the body fills out a bit more, and the pepper and stone fruit is back. Still not great, but not as off as when cold.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick creamy off white head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a bready malt, pepper snd citrus. Medium mouthfeel with a buttery smoke and pepper with lingering dry finish. A good saison from Ranger Creek.

Thanks to rougeau13 for the trade! Murky gold, big frothy head. Smells nice - lemon, some funk. Very soft palate. I get some woody notes, some nutty, grassy flavors, and some wieny flavors, too. Pretty tasty stuff.

Bottle pours light slightly hazy yellow. Mild pepper yeasty nose. Taste starts off with a pepper flavor, with some waxy notes. Almost too hot/spicy. A little yeasty and a very light body. Not as bad as a lot of previous reviews.

Beautiful wax dipped hand numbered bottle gave me high hopes that I had found a good Texas craft beer. Looked good in the glass. Nice golden color. Tasted good for about 3 seconds. Very yeasty, flat, light bodied, woody flavors - and not in the good way.
