COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This vintage ale undergoes a 3 hour boil to create a complex layer of malt character including caramel, toffee, ripe fruit, and leather. The floral and earth-toned Kent Goldings hops add a soft background of spice giving depth to the malt flavors and providing an overall balance. It has been aged for 6 months in oak barrels to allow time for this big beer to mature and mellow. At 10% ABV, it’s made to be laid down like a fine wine. If stored properly this barleywine should keep well for upwards of 10 years. Drink one now, save more for later!

Bottle from 10/8/12 thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a hazy to murky golden hued body. Massive off-white head for such a big beer. Aromas are vinous, marmalade, dark fruits, leather, rich toffee with mild melanoidins, cotton candy, some dry oak (vanillin and lactone), quite a few esters. Interesting. Flavors are estery, leathery, plums, dark fruits, dates, light marmalade, currant (which I associate with sours), vinous, toasted oak and brown sugar. Very fruit forward. Boozy. Very lively carbonation, medium dry for how big it is (albeit it feels sticky at some moments), warming, low to medium tannin. High carbonation on 10% beer, huge ester, vinous, an rustic funk hints that this might have picked up some critters in the barrel. That said if the bottles stay relatively stable, I could see this actually aging pretty well for about 3-5 years.

Brownish pour, light tan head. Flavors are muddled and Im sure this is infected. Lots of rotten fruit, old wood...not really so great.

Golden colored pour with a white head. Smokey nose, some orange, grass, and sweet peaches. Fruity esters, a bit of oak, vanilla, and some sweet malt. The flavor is malty and sweet up front with some caramel and peach notes. Light citrus, oak, vanilla, smoke, and a touch of grass. Kind of highly carbonated.

(Draught) clear gold, fine white bubbles. Nose of white pepper, herbs, earthy, and light tartness. Taste of pepper, rye, light gold raisins, not sweet. Medium carbonation and slick body. This is an oak aged barley wine?

Bottle thanks to my secret Santa! Pours a hazy amber brown with a large tan head that dissipates to the slowly to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of light fruit and a hint of grassiness with a strong sweet grain and oak backbone. Flavor is similar with a grass note up front that finishes with sweet grains, oak and light fruits.

The beer pours an ugly brown color with a small head. The aroma has a lot of brown sugar in it, as well as some heavy caramel and toffee malt. The flavor has a good bit of oak and brown sugar, as well as some dark fruit, toffee and caramel. As the beer warms I start to get a butter-like quality as well as some funky brett notes, which may be the early signs of an infection (as has been reported in other reviews).

Bottle courtesy pikapp 327. Pours a fairly clear reddish orange with a hazy color. White head. Aroma is dry wood, wet nose with slight sweetness. Flavor is sweet with some sugar and brown.
