Our newest small batch release is a pecan smoked Doppelbock lagered in our own bourbon barrels for a short time. This deep mahogany, full-bodied brew has aromas of nutty smoke and stone fruit, with flavors of rich malt, dried fruit, cinnamon, vanilla, and oak. A portion of the malt was smoked by hand at Ranger Creek with Texas pecan wood in our very own Texas malt smoker. The beer was then lagered for 2 months in Ranger Creek bourbon barrels. Bottles will age and mellow nicely for up to 10 years if stored properly

Pours deep dark brown with small beige head and nice lacing. Aroma of sweet smokey stone fruit and hints of vanilla and bourbon. Tastes sweet dark fruit with vanilla/ bourbon and smoked malt shows through very well that leaves your palate very slowly. Overall Iím not sure if this has enough body for a doppelbock or if aging it in bourbon barrels took away from it but it would be better with the body.

375ml bottle thanks to Rob. Pours out a muddy brown topped with a tan head. Nose is pit fruit toffee wood notes vanilla cocoa and smoke malts. Taste is more of the smoke malt some sweet fruit notes wood and a little citrus.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is roast and grain. Medium mouth, dry pecan, cinnamon, and oak, light bitterness, good.

375ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of some caramel and sweet malts, some light bourbon and oak, light nuttiness, and some smokiness. Flavor the same with a very nice blend of everything, and the smokiness on the finish complimenting the base beer and bourbon and oak. Average texture. A pretty cool beer.

Bottled: 2-19-13 7.5% ABV Appearance Non-transparrent dark brown almost black body accompanied by a medium-sized quickly dissipating mocha head. Nose Extremely rich malt nose, hints of smoke, cocoa and vanilla Palate Holy shit! Incredibly rich and smooth burst of initial flavor. A heavy mouthfeel that is so velvety smooth and extremely pleasant. Fully rounded smoke flavors and rich malt with a slight hint of alcohol lurking under the smoke and roast that warms the palate. There are slight undertones of fruits and maple that mellows and balances the all out full roast character. It finishes with a sugary sweet and light roast finish that lingers for a respectable amount of time. Overall There is an absolutely perfect reason that this beer was the Gold Medal winner at the 2013 World Beer Championship. Incredibly rich and smooth, the partial Texas Pecan hand smoked malt adds a great addition to the character and has a respectable alcohol content that is enjoyable without going over the top. I nursed this beer to the last drop and too bad it was brewed the one and only time in 2013 because this is the best Doppelbock Iíve ever had and one of the best beers Iíve ever had the good fortune to taste. Bottle courtesy Fratto. Best by 2/20/13..................THANKS BUDDY!!! Pours a murky murky brown. Light tan head. Aroma is sweet fruit, raisin, burning alcohol and hot shit. Like the Nelly hot shit. You know when he said that in his hit song? Granted this was many years back. I was in late high school, or maybe early college. Either way, this was a while back. I remember turning on the radio and tuning it to 106.1 and I could pick up the most recent Nelly song. I can't recall if this was before or after his band-aid stage. Bottle from my back yard fridge. Dark orange pour with little to no head. Aroma is bubblegum, orange, and smokey caramel. Taste is citrus, chocolate, and a weird dry finish.

375 ml bottle thanks to errl. Pours a dark brown to black with a khaki colored head of foam that diminishes down to a ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma has notes of cocao, vanilla, toffee, light barrel. The taste has a tang at first but moves to a more brash, dry sweetness with a lot of barrel influence. Medium body and mouthfeel with a lingering warmth toward the back end and through the finish.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a light tan head. Smoke and bourbon aroma with light caramel/toffee and light fruitiness. Smoke and caramel flavor with toffee, light bourbon, and light nuttiness. Medium bodied. Bourbon and smoke linger with caramel and light mineral notes.

Tasting at Bruceís pad. Thanks to Bruce. Lightly hazy dark brown beer. Smal cream coloured head. Light palate, slightly crisp. Light caramel and sourness. Touch of coca cola fruitiness. Whisper of brett and mild lactose sweetness. Tasty.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours hazy deep ruby brown with a medium beige head. The nose is wood, earth, light vinegar, sherbet, tart, musty, vanilla and coconut. The taste is wood, earth, toast, cardboard, alcohol, light smoke, oily and mustiness with a dry, warming finish. Medium-full boy and fine, prickly carbonation. A bit unbalanced IMO, but pretty interesting stuff nonetheless.
