This Flanders Red Ale is a blend of 18 and 24 month barrels, resulting in a balanced, mature sour beer. It was re-fermented with strains of Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and Pediococcus, giving it a well developed and complex aroma of tart cherries with underling rich earthy tones. These notes are complemented by the addition of local Texas figs and tart red cherries. This sherry-like sour is deep red in color with hints of dark stone fruits and red apple and a slight tartness.

12.7oz bottle, thanks to jstax for sharing. Bottle marked 7-1-13. Cloudy red, slightly brown color. Thin off-white ring of head, kind of khaki. Some loose dots and ropes of lace. Very nice aroma. Nice wood, lactose-like cream aromas, dark fruit (cherry), light tannic type spice. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. More of a slick finish. Nice moderate sour taste, very satisfying. Light sweet, light bit of spiciness, not much though. Pretty damn satisfying tasty and complex sour red ale. Awesome stuff.

Bottled: 7-2 -2013 Bronze Medal Winner 2013 World Beer Championship Appearance A thick/rich looking non-transparrent medium earthy brown. Any head to speak of relatively white/off white in color and quickly dissipating Nose Tart fruit, banana, red apple, almost has a red wine nose Palate Very tart, light mouthfeel and easy drinking. Slight alcohol note, fruit, cherries, figs, yeast, sherry that ends with a slightly tart and aged fruit finish. Overall This beer has a wild and interesting blend of tart fruit and ale characters, it is light yet slammed with flavor . The sour elements aren’t over the top but rather add dynamic and are surprisingly refreshing. Batch No. 6 won the 2013 Bronze at the World Beer Championships and for good reason. A big thank you to my friends at Ranger Creek for sending me their selection! -BeerandWhiskeyHQ.com
