Normally released in the month of October, Pumpkin ale is a beer made with the addition of 125 pounds of fresh pumpkins to the mash. Pumpkin puree is also added to the fermentor. A light hopping and spices accent the flavor. Pumpkin ale dates back to colonial days in America, when brewers were still dependent on Europe for many supplies, especially malt. Brewers learned that they could extend their meager malt supplies by using starchy vegetables such as pumpkins, squash, and potatoes.
