The Raven Special Lager is a perfect balanced lager beer that goes well with any kind of food, but particularly with spicy food or when you just want to sit down and enjoy a beer with friends. With a shot of Woodford Reserve chased with chilled Raven is a near perfect combination. The rich golden colored beer is an exceptionally smooth Southern German lager, somewhat malty but well balanced between the hops and malt. Experiencing the clean finish and pleasant lingering aftertaste of The Raven Special Lager, one can truly say that The Taste Is Poetic.

For the European market the beer is brewed under license by Anker-Brauerei, Nagold, Germany.

THOUGHTS: Might have been a little stale or slightly skunked, but a dedent Vienna was in there somewhere. TECHNICAL: Bottle. poured a slightly hazy, light copper or very light rust with a large, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate toasted and sour malt; lighter caramel; light grassy and earthy hops; hints of cooked corn and slight skunk. The initial flavor was slightly sweet; while the finish was lightly sweet and slightly bitter. There was toasted malt, honey, slight skunk, grassy hops, sour malt, earthy hops, light nuttiness, caramel, and a hint of lemon. The light to medium body was watery with soft carbonation and a metallic finish.

I think this stuff is pretty alright. It is a shade darker than a Pilsener, clear w/ a foamy head. It smells mildly of cereal grains and this is emphasized by a light sweetness. This is medium bodied w/ pretty vigorous carbonation and goes down about as easy as a Budweiser--which is a positive in my book. I think this stuff is sort of what Yuengling claims to be like but isn’t really.

Bottle at Villain & Saint. Nice copper body with no head at all. Nose malty, grains, toasty notes. Taste more grainy with malts and more subdued hop notes. Okay, not too distinctive.

It tastes like a Yuengling. A bit apple-y, a bit wet blanket ish, low carb as far as persistent, but manages to still be a bit prickly.

12oz bottle from Total Wine. Copper pour with rapidly vanishing head. Minimal carbonation. Minimal hop aroma, light body and a minimal hop finish. Easy drinking, largely forgettable German Lager. You could down 6 of these and not notice.

Gebraut in Lizenz in Belgien. Geruch in Richtung Belgian Ale. Nicht passend für ein Lager. Geschmack dünn und saurer Einschlag. Niete.

Bottle at Max’s. Pours a clear copper body with no head light white ring of lacing. Aroma is malt, grain and light spice. Pretty bland overall. Mouthfeel is light and carbonated with notes of grain, corn, sweet malt and grain. Some metallic character on the palate as well.
