obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2008 More barley malt on the nose than to be expected from A-B, light lemon notes. Gold clear pour,no head, with streams of carbonation. Tastes of rice. Weak lemon grass finish.
ratman197 (2242), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle poured a clear amber with a lingering ring of ivory foam. Aromas of carmel and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, straw and light earthiness with a smooth malty finish. The_Beer_God (2827), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle from my friend Vince. Pour is a light gold with a tall white head. Nose is rather sweet for a "pilsner" and lightly grainy. Taste was equally sweet. Lots of sweet malts, cereal and soft honey notes. Light buttery notes as well. Body is light-medium and has a fizzy, bubbly carbonation. Finish is more sweet malts, cereal grains and light grass. Touch of honey as well. Not offensive and slightly refreshing. jcr (823), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle. A comfortable, easy-drinking lager that has more flavor and body than most American pale lagers. Clear, golden body with a big, big-bubbled head that diminishes to nothing quickly. Aroma is slightly sweet with a hint of caramel. The flavor is lightly sweet (honey) with tastes of grain and corn. Finish is lightly bitter. Light body, but the texture is just above watery. Fizzy mouthfeel, perhaps too much forced carbonation.
Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Apr 30, 2008 Bottle. I suspected this was an AB product, but wasn’t sure until now. This pours with a nice robust golden color, but virtually no head. There’s just a hint of an aroma, lightly starchy, lightly grapey. It drinks with a light buttery character, inoffensive in any way. Not overly malty, but without any notable character either. (#3442, 4/30/2008) SpudClampDawg (916), Jasper, Indiana, USA Apr 26, 2008 12oz bottle: I met Ray Hills today at a beer tasting in St. Louis. Very nice guy with an interesting story from homebrewing in his kitchen to contract brewing through AB. Through the years he contract brewed with smaller breweries and nailed down a contract with the big dog last year. He seems to be a true beer lover, so hopefully we see more of his recipes make it to the shelves. He says he is planning an amber ale with pecans and a touch of chocolate malt as his next contract brew. On to the pre-prohibition lager - pours a honeyed orange with a skimpy head. The nose is light and buttery, with a touch of caramel and grass. The body is smooth for the style, offering sweet honey, caramel and classic corn. Finishes mildly bitter with a touch of grassy resin. Honestly, for a pale lager this is pretty nice. If it didn’t have AB’s name attached it would rate much higher here.
