DarkElf (2453), La Jolla, California, USA Oct 2, 2005 (12 oz bottle: Wine Time in La Jolla, CA) Oh my God, look what I found in the 99 cent section of the beer cooler in this place. This store is always good for finding some obscure, retired, (supposedly) crappy beer, and that’s what I’m expecting with this beer too. Okay, well it pours a hazy, medium golden color, so that’s darker than I expected, but there’s also some nasty-looking brown sediment that’s not precipitating out of the beer. The head is small and whitish in color, but it is managing to hold onto a thin, partial layer atop the beer. It smells like a pretty awful lager that’s seen too many years in the bottle, which of course is entirely appropriate. But at least the flavor isn’t hideous. Well, actually, it’s pretty bad. It’s mostly just cheaply grainy, but also lightly sweet, strangely spicy, and a slight bit earthy. Body is light, but not crisp because of the age. Sorry for some disappointing news, but I think I bought the only bottle of this rare gem, so there’s no need for my local buddies to run over any grannies trying to get this beer. Ernest (4186), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 30, 2003 Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow, particles of all sizes, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A bit grainy in the finish, and the sourness isn't to my liking, but the aroma is pleasantly malty and floral. Reminds me of a cream ale...smells/looks like an ale, tastes/feels like a lager. Aubrey (2554), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 3, 2002 Sugary, "cake-frosting" nose. Cloudy, murky-gold with floaties - not inline stylistically. Very little head. Soft and sweet malt with chocolate-chip cookie dough flavors. Mild carbonation. Slight bite of hops in the middle. Semi-dry finish; chewy sweetness lingers - raw bread flavors. Overall, seemed "green" and unbalanced. Panzuriel (955), Westerville, Ohio, USA Aug 20, 2002 Faint metallic aroma. Weak and thin but refreshing. No real flavor. Slightly bitter on the aftertaste. Overall, a boring beer. austinpowers (2827), New York, New York, USA May 29, 2002 Had this a Peculier Pub in NYC. A forgettable Aussie lager.
