COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bottle conditioned version of Firebox with the addition of spice oils.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops; ginger, cloves, cinnamon, corriander, nutmeg, pimento. A dark, rich spicy bottle-conditioned ale, resonant with Christmas seasonal flavours and designed to take the chill off the coolest winter night. Ale Mary has a warm and sweet aroma of cloves, coriander and ginger. The palate provides touches of rum, raisins and sultanas, with a dry fruity finish. This ale has been exclusively brewed for us by Paul Davey of RCH Brewery.

A herbal/earthy flavoured beer with medicinal notes (not unpleasant, mind). Touches of licourice, too. Ends with a dry, smokey peat finish. Worth a go.

This kept its head far longer than Mary Queen of Scots did.Like a lot of bottle conditioned beers it had a slightly acid taste that detracted from the deep fruitiness which made it a fairly pleasant drink. There was a suggestion of other more subtle tastes but they were not strong enough to distract from this bitter edge.

Very large white fluffy head that lasts forever, this takes a while to pour. A mild sweet aroma with a hint of bitterness. Malty flavor that ends with a nice spicy aftertaste. Quite enjoyable but I doubt Iíd buy this again.

Enormously foamy head. Be prepared to wait for a while. Afterwards, be ready for a dry fruity taste with a sharp bitterness in the finish. The sweetness isnít overpowering and gives a nice balance to the spicyness also found in this one.

I had this beer on Christmas. Excellent example of English brewing. Completely unique but well within the style. Fruit/spice was mellowed by the rich malt sweetness and an unbelieveable yeasty/hoppy finish. If you mixed Old Peculier with Henís Tooth you might get this.

Spicy, dry, not too sweet for me (but weíll see as it warms), nice earthiness to this one. Quite strong alcohol presence, which I normally like far less than in here. Hmmm...itís starting to get really nutmeggy around here!

Red/amber colored. Nice spicy/fruity malts and a nice bitterness at the end. Could be a good session ale, but might get too sweet after a few.

Aroma like a well-stocked spice rack. Medium amber color with a lasting, massively fluffy head. Flavor is citric, spicy, faintly sweet, and has some leafy hop bitterness. Finish is fruity, bready and lightly acidic, dry and tangy. Medium bodied. Sweetens out a bit as it warms. Interesting enough.

2002. Cloudy amber medium body, light, crisp mouthfeel. Thick head, earthy, coriander, leathery nose. Spicy rum toward the finish.

Bubbly, cloudy light brown appearance. Alcohol, a little fruit and some yeast in the nose. Alcohol, light chocolate, bitter hop finish and a touch of cloves at the end, and that is all the spice that I encountered from a vast collection accounted for on the bottle. Not a bad brew.
