COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bottle conditioned version of Firebox with the addition of spice oils.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops; ginger, cloves, cinnamon, corriander, nutmeg, pimento. A dark, rich spicy bottle-conditioned ale, resonant with Christmas seasonal flavours and designed to take the chill off the coolest winter night. Ale Mary has a warm and sweet aroma of cloves, coriander and ginger. The palate provides touches of rum, raisins and sultanas, with a dry fruity finish. This ale has been exclusively brewed for us by Paul Davey of RCH Brewery.

Served at BJ's winter warmer fest, 2002 bottle. Body is murky medium amber, dense particles of all sizes, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie), with notes of nutmeg, orange, and apricot. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.

Cloudy orange with a bunch of small floaties swirling about. Curious mix of flavors, such as pepper, metal, ginger, citrus, sourness, bitterness and sweetness. High carbonation. Seemed acidic. Big bitterness with a dryish finish; some lingering bitter flavors.

Quite a disappointment. HUGE head that made me think it was infected. No off flavours but no good ones either.

A herbal/earthy flavoured beer with medicinal notes (not unpleasant, mind). Touches of licourice, too. Ends with a dry, smokey peat finish. Worth a go.

This kept its head far longer than Mary Queen of Scots did.Like a lot of bottle conditioned beers it had a slightly acid taste that detracted from the deep fruitiness which made it a fairly pleasant drink. There was a suggestion of other more subtle tastes but they were not strong enough to distract from this bitter edge.

Very large white fluffy head that lasts forever, this takes a while to pour. A mild sweet aroma with a hint of bitterness. Malty flavor that ends with a nice spicy aftertaste. Quite enjoyable but I doubt Id buy this again.

Enormously foamy head. Be prepared to wait for a while. Afterwards, be ready for a dry fruity taste with a sharp bitterness in the finish. The sweetness isnt overpowering and gives a nice balance to the spicyness also found in this one.

I had this beer on Christmas. Excellent example of English brewing. Completely unique but well within the style. Fruit/spice was mellowed by the rich malt sweetness and an unbelieveable yeasty/hoppy finish. If you mixed Old Peculier with Hens Tooth you might get this.

Spicy, dry, not too sweet for me (but well see as it warms), nice earthiness to this one. Quite strong alcohol presence, which I normally like far less than in here. Hmmm...its starting to get really nutmeggy around here!
