3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Look, this could rate very highly except for the fact that it is so monstrously foamy that you canít get any beer to your lips for a good 15 minutes. by way of compensation, the foam tastes pretty good - intensely spicy and hoppy. once you get to the beer itself, itís a really nicely warming, very spicy (cloves, coriander, ginger, like the label says) ale that reminds me of a good rumíníraisin icecream. very dry, with not much malt flavour, and a long, complex finish that includes marzipan among other weirdnesses.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite pale, aroma of first cinnamon and then nutmeg. Decent maltiness with good background hops and spicing that is not overdone. Solid.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The prior reviews indicate RCH has some quality-control problems with this beer. I didnít find it overly foamy and it certainly wasnít gueuze-like. This beer was quite bitter in body and finish. I taste considerable spices and a bit of metallic bitterness. A good brew which won a CAMRA gold medal.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A chistmas ale. Spices of ginger and cloves. Almost a rum cake flavor. Definately one to sit and relax with.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle conditioned. Excellent thick rocky longlasting head. Aromas of mulling spices but not overpowering. Body seems a little thin and dry with hints of cinnamon and cloves and a dry short finish.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
This beer was so active that I couldnít fully pour it into a glass for 10 minutes. The aroma of the beer didnít correspond to the label which specified cloves, coriander and ginger, and overall the beer was too bitter for consumption.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2004 Light hazy orange color with various sized suspended floaters. Spicy orange aroma followed by a dry finish. A slight metallic tinge to this beer detracts from it.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2006 Contaminated bottle? I poured less than 1 inch into an 8 inch tall glass, and the whole glass filled with thick foam - even a heavy dollop of creamy foam remained to the end. Sour in a funky Belgian way, almost like a gueuze - even with an almost horsehide aroma. Is it trying to be Belgiany or was it unintentional bacteria? I think the latter, from a beer that otherwise won a CAMRA gold medal - which leads me to believe it would normally have a more British taste. Sour as it was, it wasnít bad - mildly refreshing, not cloying and easily finishable for a full Imperial pint bottle (of course, Iíd just driven 9 hours, after a week of racking up almost 2000 miles...I would have drunk nearly anything).
Re-rate: Tastes like classic Britsh ale! Caramel and pumpkin pie on the nose with floral hops, perhaps orange blossoms. Slick palate, very sweet, could use more hops. Burnt orange color, very low carbonation, thin but lasting head.
