COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bottle conditioned version of Firebox with the addition of spice oils.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops; ginger, cloves, cinnamon, corriander, nutmeg, pimento. A dark, rich spicy bottle-conditioned ale, resonant with Christmas seasonal flavours and designed to take the chill off the coolest winter night. Ale Mary has a warm and sweet aroma of cloves, coriander and ginger. The palate provides touches of rum, raisins and sultanas, with a dry fruity finish. This ale has been exclusively brewed for us by Paul Davey of RCH Brewery.

Red/amber colored. Nice spicy/fruity malts and a nice bitterness at the end. Could be a good session ale, but might get too sweet after a few.

Aroma like a well-stocked spice rack. Medium amber color with a lasting, massively fluffy head. Flavor is citric, spicy, faintly sweet, and has some leafy hop bitterness. Finish is fruity, bready and lightly acidic, dry and tangy. Medium bodied. Sweetens out a bit as it warms. Interesting enough.

2002. Cloudy amber medium body, light, crisp mouthfeel. Thick head, earthy, coriander, leathery nose. Spicy rum toward the finish.

Bubbly, cloudy light brown appearance. Alcohol, a little fruit and some yeast in the nose. Alcohol, light chocolate, bitter hop finish and a touch of cloves at the end, and that is all the spice that I encountered from a vast collection accounted for on the bottle. Not a bad brew.

Cloudy with orange scent, white head, average size bubbles. Sharp, spicy, alcoholic, bitter. Cloves on the end.

Look, this could rate very highly except for the fact that it is so monstrously foamy that you canít get any beer to your lips for a good 15 minutes. by way of compensation, the foam tastes pretty good - intensely spicy and hoppy. once you get to the beer itself, itís a really nicely warming, very spicy (cloves, coriander, ginger, like the label says) ale that reminds me of a good rumíníraisin icecream. very dry, with not much malt flavour, and a long, complex finish that includes marzipan among other weirdnesses.

Quite pale, aroma of first cinnamon and then nutmeg. Decent maltiness with good background hops and spicing that is not overdone. Solid.

The prior reviews indicate RCH has some quality-control problems with this beer. I didnít find it overly foamy and it certainly wasnít gueuze-like. This beer was quite bitter in body and finish. I taste considerable spices and a bit of metallic bitterness. A good brew which won a CAMRA gold medal.
