As both Paul and Graham are rail enthusiasts the beer is named after the firebox in a steam engine. A reddish deep brown coloured beer which is a deceptively drinkable strong bitter with a fine combination of citrus hops and cherry fruit bittersweet flavours which gives a strong dry bitter finish.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops.

500ml bottle. Red-brown beer with a dense large rocky white head that persists and laces soapily. A fine English style IPA with a robust caramel base to balance out the dark fruity dry hop bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the Watford Beer Festival 2013. Poured a clear copper with a rocky white head. Aroma of apple juice, candy sugar and more apple juice! Cinnamon flavours with some brown sugar and... apple juice... Finish was malty with cooked apples and grass. Weird and probably not altogether right...

I had to do like 5 searches for this one, as I was reading the brewery Rich and the beer Firefox. Found this dusted bottled on my local beer shop, I didnít check for best before date until home, so there it is, almost one year after its best before date. Letís see if it hold up. 500 ml bottle, into an english pint glass, ABV 6% Opens with a loud "pffss", good sign. Pours a deep orange coloured beer, just a tad hazy.Hundreds of tiny bubbles rising slowly to the surface. On top a big,no, -huge- off-white head. Seriously, half of the pint was foam. The head is thick and creamy. It took ages to collapse and even then almost half a finger remained. Heavy lacing left around the glass. Aroma heavy on the malts, lighter on caramel. Alcohol notes. A little bit of lemon grass. Kind of wine like aroma. Pretty good. This has hold up pretty nice. Taste of caramel, nutty malts, again a wine like character, sherry sounds right, the alcohol less notable than the aroma made me think.Quite sweet on the first sip but with a mild bitter aftertaste. Medium thin body, low on the carbonation. Very dry palate. Overall quite good, it matched this cold weather pretty well.

On cask in Leicester
My third of several rates in Leicester was a decent English strong ale. Chewy and a bit malty it has more flavor than many cask ales without being a palate killer. Even so you can do better in many parts of the country.

Aroma / Appearance - A transparent caramel base retains a wispy head. Wet chocolate, caramel, and malt are sweet on the nose. This is a bit like Snickers bars in a cask.

Flavor / Palate - The chewy texture is a mix of caramel and chocolate. Morphing into a malty bitterness it then hangs in the throat nicely. It has an unfortunate boozy nature that is distracting for a 6% ABV release. I would skip this if I ever ran across it again on future trips.

bottle poured a slightly hazy amber with lasting and lacing white head . sweet aroma reminds me of dessert apples . taste is sweet and fruity to start then a more citric and hoppy bitterness . lingering acrid aftertaste is not especially pleasant . medium carbonation mouthfeel is more watery than I expected .
