COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
As both Paul and Graham are rail enthusiasts the beer is named after the firebox in a steam engine. A reddish deep brown coloured beer which is a deceptively drinkable strong bitter with a fine combination of citrus hops and cherry fruit bittersweet flavours which gives a strong dry bitter finish.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops.

Bottle @ Joes Tasting, thanks for sharing. Dark cloudy orange color. Smell malts, fruits, caramel and something weird, though it’s not dominantly present. Taste malts, bitter, caramel and grains. Average carbo and body.

Bottle: Bigger vast light tan creme head on top of a very light cloudy dark orange colored beer. Smell malts, fruit, cabbage, caramel and hints of mint and medicine. Taste malts, bitter, caramel, nuts, grains, light sharp and spicy. Light dry bitter malty aftertaste. Low to medium carbo, medium body, soft tingly mouthfeel and a watery texture,

Cask, gravity, at Luton Beer Festival ’11. Copper gold. Sweet malt aroma, and some fruitiness. Strong sweet malty taste. Cherry says the notes. I don’t get it. But actually I really liked this beer.

(Bottle Conditioned.) One of those bottle conditioned ales that bordes on homebrew’ish vibe , but anyway ....the nose gives suggestions of flowery hops . biscuty rich malt ...notes of fruit ester . First few sips are tangy , dry , and with asserive peppery citrus apple like texture...rich choco malt gives nice interest. ALLINALL. A beefy ale -that’s refreshing and kinda complex .

Pours dark amber with a great tanned head leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is heavily malty, sour and with distinct tones of caramel. Flavor is Sourish sweet, floral and malty. Crispy sweet on palate. Finishes sour tart hoppy. Not exactly what I was expecting from a premium bitter.

Bottle: Hazy, some UFO’s visible, stable off-white creamy head; distinctive aromas of sweet raisins and aromatic herbal hops in the nose, supported bysome malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied; citrussy hops and sweet (dark-) malt feature in the lingering dry and nutty finish. A good beer.........

2nd August 2008. Slightly cloudy amber beer. Well balanced. Mellow malt followed by fruity hops. Let down by a mouth drying astringent bitter finish.
