COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
As both Paul and Graham are rail enthusiasts the beer is named after the firebox in a steam engine. A reddish deep brown coloured beer which is a deceptively drinkable strong bitter with a fine combination of citrus hops and cherry fruit bittersweet flavours which gives a strong dry bitter finish.
Pale malt, chocolate malt; Progress and Target hops.

Bottle. Opaque, dark amber with a very lively off-white head. Aroma of red fruit, spice, yeast and marmalade. Mouth feel was chewy despite a fair bit of carbonation. Flavour of malt, citrus and a whiff of stem ginger with a short bitter finish. Enjoyable.

The Crown, Nuneaton. Nose is booze with apple notes. Red, thick, syrupy and medicinal. Cheap red fruit and caramelised sugariness nudging towards Bavaria Red boredom/nastiness. Hints of strawberry and alcohol sting. Thin and sudden.

500ml bottle. Slightly floral, very slightly gingery aroma. Taste is a definite but not bold malty base with dark resiny hoppy bitterness which sticks to the back of the mouth. Covers the alcohol very well, very drinkable, and quite moreish. Absolutely nothing wrong or negative about it. However, perhaps it’s too subtle - from a strong ale I want something bolder.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet and very malty. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of hay, leading to a bitter finish.

Amber/golden colored beer with a good persistant small biege head. Lots of citrus in the nose. Initially caramel, then turning to a nice strong citrussy hoppy ale. Bitter strong finish.
