UPDATED: FEB 16, 2010 Cask gravity at Kent BF. Pale chestnut, really nice colour with thin white head. It’s fine. It does what it says, a drinkable session bitter. Decent hop. 3/5 Re rate cask handpull at The Rake Really hoppy ofr a 3.6% beer. Tastes like a proper bitter. Bit of hop, biscuit malt. Great condition.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2010 Copper colour. Light apple and pear drop undertones in the aroma, underpinning a malty first impression. Quite bitter flavour, with a hint of berry fruit. Citrus notes on the finish. In other words, a respectable, but uninspiring basic bitter. I’m sure this would be fine for an extended session in a pub, but, in a festival context, it didn’t shine. Cask (gravity), Catford Beer Festival. (6/3/6/3/12 = 3.0) RE-RATE. Cask (handpump) at the Market Porter, Southwark, 27 January 2010. Attractive amber colour. Good slaty hop aroma. More minerally notes and plenty of hop on the palate. Lingering bitterness. Excellent quaffing bitter. They seem to have dropped the Hewish from the name as this was badged simply as RCH IPA. Perhaps they have tweaked the recipe too as this seemed far better before. Or perhaps it was just in excellent condition on this occasion. (7/4/7/4/15 = 3.7) Average score taken

Dark amber color with good off-white head. Strong honeyish hoppy aroma. Malty but quite pale malty and hoppy, but not aggressive for IPA. Licorice notes. Light as you can expect from 3.6 % beer but ok for sessions.

Cask (Kitty’s, Helsinki)
Rich orange, dough head. Rich chocolatey aroma. Big nutty hoppy taste. Slightly watery, but only to an extent that the beer’s refreshing rather than sticky. Body also has richly roasted malt, some tinges of burntness too. Tasty nutty finish. Very solid English bitter - excellent for 3.6%
