I was a little dissappointed with this one. Palate wasn’t as complex as I had hoped. But it was certainly smooth and had a nice finish.

On cask at Rustico Alexandria. Served in a nonic pint.
Pours dark brown with a good cask-level light tan head. Good lacing on the way down. The nose carries a strong component of diacetyl, which is thankfully at least partially covered up by roast and chocolate. Flavor isn’t quite as bad on that front, though it’s still there. Nothing too interesting. Medium body and light carbonation with a bit of roast. Okay.

Served on cask. Nice malty flavor. Retains a nice head. Like a beer you would get in England.

Draught at Churchkey. Murky brown pour. Nose and flavor are marked by light roast, floral hop, and touches of caramel and milk chocolate. Tertiary flavors of cola, toast, and toffee. Beautiful balance and remarkably refreshing for the style. Nice stuff!

500 ml bottle thanks to Santa. Pours a opaque dark brown color with a thick light brown head. The aroma is nutty with caramel and toffee. The flavor is a nice mellow porter; sweet chocolate, cocoa, light smoke and roast, vanilla, some very light fruit. Smooth and quite drinkable. A velvety smooth palate.

Near black pour, small cream colored head. Roasty aroma, malt, coffee, dusty. Taste has nice roast malts, slight coffee and dark chocolate. Pretty medium bodied, finish with a little coffee bitter, clean, drinkable. Good version of the standard Engligh porter.

Half pint at the Twickenham Beer Festival 2011. Dark brown/black, little head. Lovely coffee porter aroma. A fine drop, rich and deep, and excellent porter.

From out the bottle it produces dark as midnight with just a shimmer of cola-brown coming through in the lights. Fine bead rises to a whipped up cappuccino foam that holds and leaves a whispy, weaving lace. Nose has strong notes of kelp and heather, fresh strapped leather and mulled wine. Some yeast in there, Marmite, and an end of damp, burnt wood, very interesting waft. Lighter than expected in body, quite creamy and well rounded with a good dark malt profile. Quite mellowing, light smoke and bitter chocolate, some medium roast coffee bean, treacle and dried dark berry for sweetness and Marmite for a zesty tang. A very soft tannic note on the swallow is not too alarming, the length quite dry, ashen and earthy with some heather and kelp similar to the nose. Enjoyable stuff, even better as it warmed.
