JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Jan 30, 2007 Cask Black beer with some brownish edges under B.C."H.". Slightly hoppy nose, whith some dark malts, liquorice, and hints at moccha. Nice, grapey, definitely hoppy taste, with flavours as from grape juice without the excess sweetness and as if sweetened with Traubenzucker . Light but not watery, some grist-like slickness. Original porter - a flavour which I would not associate with the style. I would tend to call it a very good mild, in fact. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Jan 28, 2007 Bottle. Clear brown color, short brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, rye, coffee and some licorice, blackcurrant as well. Sweet and malty taste, slightly bitter, bready. Decent porter indeed. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jan 25, 2007 bottle: poured a beautiful chocolate brown colour with large tan head. aroma of sweet malts and small chocolate notes. flavour is great equalness of malts and chocolate with mild coffee. overall an wxcellent porter. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Jan 21, 2007 A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock Arms. A fine porter with all the roasty, chocolate and coffee notes you would hope for. Bitter finish adds some welcome balance. A fine drop of English. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jan 12, 2007 Bottle pours dark brown with a tall tan head that stays well and laces the pint glass in layers. Aromas of roasted malts, slight chocolate, and molasses. Flavor is big roasted malts, and some light coffee, along with a little molasses. Palate is somewhat on the watery side but pretty well carbonated. Finish is slightly bitter.. Not a bad drinker! Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Dec 31, 2006 Dark coffee appearance, slight head. Aroma surrounds molasses and roast malt. Flavor is molasses, roast coffee, a hint of chocolate, and some dark fruit in the depths. Very well done English style porter. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Dec 25, 2006 500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. bottle conditioned, ABV is 4.5%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Decent and lingering creamy tan head. The slug-like "trail" of the head down the side of the glass as you drink has allegedly given the beer its name - together with the fact that the brewers had to "fight" slugs coming into the brewery at the old premises. (As we know, slugs LOVE beer.) Pleasant aroma of prunes, mild coffee and chocolate. Roasty flavour, fairly dry, notes of coffee, dark bread and chocolate. Some fruity notes in the finish, "coffee" aftertaste. A decent porter with a moderate ABV. Tmoney99 (4656), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 24, 2006 Bottle. Poured dark brown color with an large frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted nutty malt aroma. Medium body. Medium roasted balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.
