glaze0101 (79), USA Mar 25, 2008 Bottle Conditioned. Pours dark brown/black with a nice full head. As commercially mentioned nice lacing. Very earthy and wood with a coffee overtone. Lighter body than I expected. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 21, 2008 Updated: Oct 20, 2008500 ml. Nearly opaque brown-black with a large and lasting creamy head. Chocolate caramel, earthy spice, and some char in the aroma. Flavor is a bit disappointing after the malty nose: a tart apple twang, chalk, coffee, and a drying bitter herb finish that leaves a charred apple cider aftertaste. Light-medium body is smooth and chalky-dry. Edmoe (126), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 28, 2008 Cask from Redlight Redlight. Appearance looks great. Dark, almost black with a frothy tan head. Aroma is very light malt and toffee. Flavor is also fairly light. Some malt with a slight burnt flavor. Palate is too thin with a slight astringency in the finish. Just OK. Finn (1422), Tromsø, Norway Jan 28, 2008 Bottle 0,5l. Deep, deep red. Almost black. A medium sized fluffy head. Pleasant aroma of coffee. Flavor dominated by chocolate with the coffee returning in the aftertaste. Well rounded. Beerlando (2283), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 24, 2008 Cask at Redlight Redlight. Pours a dark, murky, mahogany brown color. A small, foamy, tan colored head leaves behind intricate, spider-web lacing. The aroma is roasty, showing baker’s chocolate, background coffee, and hints of smoked malts. The flavor follows suit, with roasted malts dominating. Bitter chocolate and coffee start out smooth and end short and dry. I feel like I’ve been transported to an English pub. This is the definition of a true session porter. I could seemingly knock back a dozen of these over the course of a night. It’s no more or less than what is intended, and I can appreciate that. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jan 24, 2008 cask @ redlight redlight. Vanilla and chocolate on the nose with slight hints of smoke. Pours very dark brown almost black with a very thick tan head. chocolate and coffee dominate the front, caramel and brown sugar follow, with hints of a smokiness lurking somewhere in the background, the finish is dark fruits, and sweet roasted malts. Mouth feel is light, with just enough carbonation to slightly tickle your tongue. Great porter, and a great cask ale. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Clean brown color. Nutty chocolate nose with caramel notes. A bit thin, but decent flavors. ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jan 19, 2008 500 ml bottle poured a cleardark brown with ruby highlights and a small lingering tan head.
