Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
In the old brewery we had a problem with slugs getting into the brewery. As the beer leaves a trail down the glass as you drink it like a slug, that's how the beer was named. A delicious traditional porter with a full bodied taste of chocolate, coffee, blackcurrant and black cherry with a good aroma. A near black colour with a good white head when served through a tight sparkler.
Pale malt, crystal malt, black malt; Fuggles and Goldings hops.

Brown hue with ruby highlights producing a creamy tan head and very good lace. The aroma hints of ripe currents and apples, roasted dark malts, mocha and caramel, floral and grassy hops, and dusty yeast esters. The taste starts surprising bitter with the malts more in the background and adding support. A fruity twang and some woody characteristics midpoint. Has a slightly smoky and a touch coffee grind finish. This thin to medium-bodied brew has a lively mouthfeel and a dry backend, mildly astrengent. A dry porter which needs more mouthfeel, but successful in all other aspects. Worth a try.

My experience of this porter was not really that pleasurable. There was a constant strong carbonation that I found irritating, and the dark flavours such as the licorice were too intrusive, clashing dramatically with the slightly sour fruit flavours. Also I found the name daft and slightly off-putting. My negative response could also be due to the fact that I drank this the day after I had savoured the sublime delights of Burton Porter - an experience which is hard to follow.

Bottled. Poured clear, deep plummy brown with a tall, creamy cap of grayish-beige head.. sticky lacing. The aroma picked up coffee first with dry-roasted darker chocolates and black cherry skins.. dry and very enjoyable! The flavor mirrored the aroma well with dry chocolates and light coffee bitterness.. the back end brought out tart cherry and other darker fruit skins.. dry chocolate bitterness and moderately-roasted black malt sweetness on the finish. Lighter-bodied and a bit watery at points.. without that occasional empty feel, this perhaps would have gone from good to great!

Coffee in aroma. Big white head on reddish tinged black. Bold taste spurred on by the fruit. Medium mouthfeeel. Above average porter.

Bottle (500ml). Shared with GregClow, my bottle. Poured deep cloudy reddish-brown with a large light brown pancake batter head. Nice roasty aroma of mild coffee beans, dark and milk chocolate, yeast, malteesers, some pungent hops, crushed chestnuts - a hint of bottle metal as it warms. Taste is smooth chocolate, a bit chalky with hardwood smoke, some tart, almost sour fruit - quite mild, really. Mouthfeel is slightly sour, acidic - watery; this isn’t bad, but nothing memorable - smokey and average.

Dark brown, red tinged body with a small creamy tan head. Coats the glass. (3+) Dark Malty aroma with a hint of roast barley, vague touch of licorice. Lots of coffee like bitter roast in a rude opening. Lingering roast on the tongue. Palate is creamy but light. Nice beer, but the roasty bitterness is not to my liking. Thanks Detritus.
