COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Majestic Ale For A Momentous Occasion. This noble brew evolved from its common cousins, porter and stout, by necessity to endure the long voyage to the Russian royal court. Colossal additions of American hops are used to balance the robust malt character and infuse this ale with their distinctly citrus-like qualities. 15th Anniversary Ale can be consumed now or laid down for further enjoyment. Take some home to share with friends and family at your court.

Tasted from 12oz bottle into tulip, thanks Dak! Cool graphic design, layout and fonts. Poured an opaque motor oil black color with a thick tan head, long-lasting with excellent Belgian lace. Aromas of caramel, brown bread, coffee and cream, berries, molasses, unusually high level of grapefruity American hops. Malty sweet flavor, not too much residual sugar, and tart with a nice crispness I’m not used to in Imperial Stouts (again, perhaps from higher hops levels.) Hints of bitter chocolate, espresso grounds, burnt toast, a bit of chalk and mushy bread in the mouthfeel, lingering fruity aftertaste. Rich, complex and delicious. Who knew such an interesting Russian Imperial Stout could come from Texas?!

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Aroma: Deep bold smell of chocolate, toffee, anise, roasted malt and a touch of fruit. Appearance: Jet black with a foamy one finger tan head that quickly dissipates. Taste: Chocolate up front transitioning to heavy roasted malt and raisins closing with bitter espresso. Palate: Fairly well-bodied but I would like just a bit more in a RIS. Silky mouthfeel that disappears just a bit too soon. Overall: A solid RIS that hovers above average, but falls short of being great. Very much enjoyed trying my first offering from Real Ale.

2/24/12. On tap at the brewery during RBWG 2012. Not quite opaque black pour, lots of ruby edges, all under a nice tan head. Nice robust aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, and some dark fruits. Nice flavor of sweet and dark chocolate, a bit of roast, a touch of tart acidity, and a hint of hoppiness and dark fruits. Not bad!

12 ounce bottle thanks to Dixonian, poured a dark black cola color with aromas of burnt coffee, and chocolate. Thiner on the palate than expected, with favors of bittersweet chocolate, burnt malt, coffee, and a little ash. Real nice beer in my book.

Just got this in the mail today. Thanks bpgpitt10 from BeerAdvocate. It pours a pitch black with just an edge of coffee clarity around the glass, quick beige head that doesn’t hang around. Nose is pretty much all malts, roast, caramel, toffee, not too boozy for a fresh high ABV Russian Imperial Stout. Taste is really nice, that same caramel and toffee pulls through and is capped by a very appropriate hop sting. This one could use a bit more carb and body both, not a total downfall at all but would’ve enjoyed a little something more. Very lucky to have tried this one, never even heard of the brewery so had no clue what to expect but it proved itself to me, that’s for sure.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2012 Bottle - pours a solid black with a cola brown larger than average head. Had a roasted malt flavor with a medium mouthfeel and a nice chocolate finish.

A dark black body with a brown head the fades but leaves some lacing. The aroma is full of malt, coffee, chocolate, and some slightly spicy hops. The flavor is malty and hoppy with some coffee and chocolate. It has a smooth body and a bit of spiciness on the aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a deep black, but that was to be expected. Really this is simply everything one would expect and want from an Impy, very straightforward. and solid.

12 oz. bottle - via trade - Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Light lacing. Flavor and aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, and chocolate. A fairly smooth, medium to full body beer. If this beer was brewed by a more popular and well know brewery, the score would be at least .2 higher. A very good beer.
