3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bitbucket (2112) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - DEC 3, 201212oz. bottle Pours opaque black with a lacy tan head. Aroma is sweet molasses and roasty malt with a touch of coffee and chocolate. Taste starts with molasses and coffee, but gets ashy quickly. There is so much char in the finish that it’s hard to appreciate the hops. This beer would probably be great in three or four years, but today it is sort of disappointing.

Courtesy of Scott O! This one is nice -- can't recall seeing an imperial in a 12 oz before. Deep black pour. Strong stout body: rich malt flavor and aroma, with no bitterness but a nice roastiness. Overall flavor I'm getting is stout-stout-stout -- and that's a good thing. Picking up some coffee and chocolate as well, tho I think that's to be expected. In a word, this is solid. I don't vote Republican, but this is a dubyah stout: no nonsense and quite sure of its convictions. Recommended!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Glouglouburp (5562) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2013
In short: A sweet and roasty stout with awkward spicy & minty edge. Ok.
How: Bottle 12oz, consumed 6 months after receiving it from my BA friend Scott, thanks buddy.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is medium roasty, roasted cookies, fresh green minty notes. Taste has molasses cookies, strong roast presence but without coffee/chocolate, Dare Foods Bear Paws™, fruit cake, a clove-like spiciness, pleasant green minty flavor, light milky notes. Doesn’t feel sweet on the attack but has plenty of residual sugars in the after-taste. Pleasant full body with a lively carbonation. Not a bad beer at all but some flavor elements clashed with each other (roast, clove-ish spiciness, minty hops) and the whole thing was a bit awkward. This Texan brewery caused controversy by using ROMAN numerals for this anniversary beer, it makes it less Americans, Obama is being blamed.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 adamjackson (1229) - Lyme, New Hampshire, USA - APR 3, 2013
1 finger brown head, deep black pour. Tons of chocolate and roastiness. Sweet, mellow finish, burnt coffee beans, a bit of astringency and charred oak. Nice but a bit thin for a 10% beer.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Phatdog1 (113) - Brentwood, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 5, 2013
12 oz bottle compliments of Crajun. Split between 2 sample glasses. Poured a thick oily black, little to no head. Nose of earth, dark fruit and coffee. Thick mouthfeel with a nice blend of coffee, raisins, dark chocolate and brown bread. Hint of pumpernickel, am I crazy? Slight boozy finish, but just what you'd expect from a RIP. not best in class, but well worth seeking out!

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a darker brown to black with a thin tan head of foam. The aroma is a musky, earthy, chocolate, roasty, and mildly sweet. Mildly bitter and most definitely roasty on the palate.

Head: small, espresso
Colour: black
Smell: reminds me of Mikkeller Beergeek Breakfast, so strong coffee and roasty aroma !
Taste: coffee, roasted malts, tad irony and medium bitterness at first, then it gets a bit more boozey with touches of anise and charcoal, end is dry and grassy, very good !
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TizzleJizzle (375) - Garland, Texas, USA - NOV 4, 2012
Bottle from central market. Poured a dark brown, almost black color with a nice khaki top and decent lacing. Dark coco, molasses, coffee, alcohol, dry hop finish. Very complex and tasty. All those not in Texas, this is worth trading for!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ansermadide (1198) - Kyle, Texas, USA - OCT 14, 2012
(Transcribed from voice notes taken in front of a loud band at the brewery’s 15th anniversary party.) The aroma is very good - great roasted malts and light alcohol. Not your every day Russian imperial stout. Flavor is predominantly of roasted malt, tastefully done with a little dryness. I thought I smelled some hops in the nose, and maybe I did, but it’s hard to pull any definite hop characteristics out of the flavor. The alcohol isn’t all that detectable for the percentage that’s actually in it. It goes down easy and is not overly bitter for how roasted it tastes. Very easy to drink... and for how hot it was at Real Ale’s anniversary party, it was deliciously refreshing. A tout may be too heavy for Texas summers, but imperial stouts are welcomed.
