Gose is a rarely brewed regional specialty beer from Northern Germany. A slightly sour ale, it is known for its use of coriander and a unique saltiness that is derived from the local water source. Our first batch of Gose was brewed on a 7 bbl system with our friends at Odell Brewing Company. The recipe is the same now as it was then: a high percentage of malted wheat, acidulated malt to lower pH and impart a subtle sour character, with fresh ground coriander and crystal salt to finish the boil. As a twist on the original German brews, whole limes were pureed and added to the beer after fermentation. The result is a delightfully tart and most refreshing tipple, a perfect beer for a Texas celebration. Thank you to our friends in Colorado for sharing in this creation; thank you to our friends here at home for enjoying it with us after 18 years.

Hazy deep rich golden with a foamy thick white head. Sultry earthy salty nose with something herbal and grassy I can’t put my finger on. Bright and crisp flavor with wheaty biscuit and Pilsner grains with a little briney tones and grassiness. Just lightly sour.

Pours a hazy yellow from the can with bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to leave little lace. Aroma of sour funky wheat and a hint of salty brine. Taste is a bit more subtle, wheat and a hint of lemon, light dry tartness. Bubbly carbonation, effervescent and light; not bad but better ones out there in my opinion.

On tap at the Flying Saucer. Light, murky pour with a big white head. Aroma is light citrus, wheat cut, and a little spiciness. Taste is some of those things as well, but was overwhelmingly salty for me. A little funk. A lot salt.

12 ounce can thanks to Angelo (I forgot it in the box!). Orange pour. No carbonation - or almost none. Lime and coriander for sure. Slight sweet then tart/ salt thing.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with white head. Lime, coriander, wheat, and tartness and funk on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes tart and dry.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2014 My first gose. Pours a slightly hazy golden color. Small head dissipates in seconds. Aroma is a sweet funk, lime and wheat, and I swear there’s brown sugar on the nose. The wheat and lime are present in the taste, and it finishes strong with lime. A good beer, I’ll try this one again.

12 oz can. Deep gold in color with a small white head that disappears. Aroma is of salt, heavy lemon, straw, and light kitchen cleaner. Taste is of wheat, straw, lemon, light tartness, a hint of salt and a nice spicy pepper note.

I was not expecting this to be as good as I found it. Finished the night with it to avoid destroying my palate. Nice sour sweet aroma. Bland light not bubbly mouth feel. Beer is a little cloudy and not heady from tap. Taste is a yummy salty sour with some sweetness at the end. The sour is lime like

Extra from errl-thanks, Chris. Nose is wheat and lime. Lightly cloudy gold. Tastes like a good shandy, tons of lemon-lime soda, some crisp light hops, very lightly salty. Love it. Not as tart as I’d want in a gose, but Real Ale is nailing some crushable hot weather beers.

9/5/2014. From can. Light amber color with a thin white head. Fresh, fruity aromas with hints of spices. Flavors are sweet and fruity with light saltiness. Very refreshing.
