COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What do you get when you take our top-selling Firemans #4 and transform it into 4-squared? Blonde ale to the power of awesome! You might ask how we’ve accomplished this, and you probably should. We start with the basic Firemans recipe, add more of our premium 2-row malted barley to bring this blonde ale up to 16°P, then add massive charges of hops to give some bulk to this burly blonde. The clean, dry finish and the signature Crystal and Glacier hops are still there -- we’ve simply multiplied it like crazy. Add to that Herkules, Amarillo and a round of dry-hopping, and you’re left with notes of citrus and a substantial hop flavor and aroma. A truly special beer for our 16th year. Casks of 4-squared have been additionally dry-hopped with Zythos hops, a blend of Northwest "IPA style" hops. Piney, resinous, and a boost of citrus.

Can at BTBF. Pours with a clear golden hued body with a white head. Aromas are of hops: grassy, tangerine, citrus and fruity. Very mild malt structure, light fermentation esters. Hops are show cased. Flavors are grassy, tons of dry hop resin character, citrus, herbaceous, tangerine. Grainy and dry. Lively carbonation, low body with a dry and crisp finish. I’d definitely pick up a few cans of this if it were locally available and fresh.

deep gold from the tapline .. woo! really tasty .. . crisp and lightly hopped .. slight wet dog and green hops .. great brew .. . . And it was fine for the 1930s; the country was doing great back then. Everyone was into talking. But now, in whatever year this is, the audience wants action. And seats with beverage holders. But mainly action.

Cask at the bottle shop. yellow pour with a white head. nose is citrusy hops, light grain, and tropical fruits. smooth on the palate, light "blond" flavor , but overpowered by fresh fruity hops, nice malt backbone, and a smooth finish.

Cask poured at The Bottle Shop on Greenville. The beer pours a golden color with a white head. The aroma has a ton of big orange citrus notes, as well as some biscuit malt. The flavor is very similar. I get quite a bit of sweetness from the biscuit malt, with some toffee also thrown in. However, the hops also really come through. I get some juicy orange notes as well as some grass and resin. The bitterness is low to medium and goes with the flavors very well. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. This is completely different than the regular Fireman’s 4 and is a definite improvement in my opinion.

Tap at Flying Saucer, Sugarl Land.
Pours an average yellow with a nose of weak grapefruit and light orange peel. Flavor is detergent and hops, with a light floral and honey finish. Soapy mouthfeel. This doesn’t work for me; the blond is fighting the hops and the drinker is losing.

Can poured into a footed pilsner/flute glass. Appearance is a hazy golden yellow color with a frothy white head. Aroma is very bready, evidence of dry-hopping, citrus and grapefruit. Flavor is hoppy, dry and grassy bready. Finishes not very dry on the finish though which gives it a good palate. Much better than the original. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
