THE BLACK QUAD: an homage to Belgian brewing tradition, with a slight departure. Characteristic of the style are notes of caramel, candi sugar, and dark fruit. Our addition of premium Belgian Black Malt adds a subtle component of dry roastiness for a deliciously dark complexity. 22°

Dark fruits and lighter yeast esters (banana), molasses, a hint of roasted grain, chocolate, tar, a speck of citrus, spices, and generous ethanol in the aroma (increasingly so with temperature). Busy, but enticing. The taste is spicy and malty, with the roasted character and the darker fruity esters making more of a guest appearance. Viscous palate with gentle carbonation. I was looking forward to a more candi-sugar type of taste, but it was very good nonetheless.

Got this thanks to bleeng, Poured a very muddy brown/black with a head that disappeared pretty quickly. Nose is pretty sweet with fig, date, ripe fruittiness, with the belgian candy sugar telling me that this is gonna be a very sweet beer. Im not surprised by the taste. Very sweet teetering on too sweet. I wish this had a bit more carbonation as it would have improved my rating. Mouthfeel is a bit flat with the sweetness lingering maybe a bit longer then it should. I should have shared this pour with someone as 12 oz is probably more then i really wanted. I think this is a beer that i would have enjoyed a bit fresher but still a solid quad.

From a 12oz bottle thanks to Ratman. Says best by Oct 8, 2013...Edition No 2. Poured into a Great Lakes tulip glass. Pours ruby mahogany with small head and lace. Aroma of biscotti, anise, toffee, milk chocolate. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of a malted milk ball soda with alcohol. There’s dark chocolate, molasses, carob, banana, liquorice, and rum like flavors.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of licorice, grapes, spice, roastiness, yeast, tobacco and light cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of licorice, cocoa, roastiness, yeast, spice and fruitiness with a smooth lingering fruity finish.

Opaque dark brown - black beer with a good pale tan head. Lights spices on the nose. Palate is soft and dry with fine carbonation. Sweetish malt, some cream. Coca cola and mild generic dark fruits. Touches of mellow cinnamon and cloves. Finishes semi dry with with light candy fruits. Comes together very well. Nice beer!

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a small head. Light malty nose. Interesting quad with some nice Belgian yeast notes. A little toastiness and smooth body. Very easy to drink and the Abv is well hidden. Decent quad from a great brewery.

12 oz bottle. Deep brown with a trace of lingering froth. Nose is fig, plum, dough and molasses. Medium body with a tingle; quite warming. Taste is brown sugar, clove and raisin with hints of chocolate and banana. A nice quad with a lively twist.

The black malt makes this one, other than that a serviceable quad. Nice sweetness, very drinkable. Thanks Steve S.

Bottle:   Nearly black, super deep brown, thin frothy sandy head, little lacing.   Heavy malty aroma, biscuity, dark pitted fruit to follow.   Big malty dark pitted fruit on the tongue.   Somewhat bright, sweet, not all that bready.   Not too heavy, meaning the breadiness isn’t over the top.   Loads of dark pitted fruit tho.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Slight popsicle flavors, grape, orange, and cherry combined.   Seems a little artificial, but at least it has some breadiness and dark pitted fruit.   Finishes somewhat sweet, bready, light dark pitted fruit, with a heavy popsicle presence.   Different, not as heavy as others, but has a big popsicle aspect that I don’t care for.   Good, but seems a little artificial at times.   Thanks for the bottle Bill!

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark somewhat murky color with a medium beige head. A sweet sugary nose with berries, candies, some toffee and yeast. The flavor is sweet big sugary flavors, berries, strawberry especially, some caramel, a bit of dark porter elements slipping in here. Really nice twist on a great style.
