LONG HAVE WE WANTED TO BREW TRIBUTE TO “1000M,” an epic Blonde Barleywine fashioned by the great brewers at the now-deceased Bitter End Brewery. A golden opportunity, and 8 years of pleading from our head cellarman Von J, have brought us full circle to this highly anticipated resurrection, 10 years to the very day of its first and only brew. 20°

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy gold-looks like a hefe. Nose is a little musty as this bottle is a bit old. Flavors are a bit of sugar, honey and malts. Hops are present and fit the bill on this one. Drinks and goes down smoothly. I loved Bitter End-one of the first and best Austin brewpubs.

Sadly this will most likely be the last of the Brewers Cut series I ever get. The local distributors are not getting this any longer, said it was lack of sales. What BS! Anyways this one poured up a very dirty gold. Gave it a one originally on appearance but with the use of a strainer to catch the larger chunks it was nicer looking than the first bottle. Not much aroma and mostly had a grain taste with some notes of hop spice in there. Not as good as the older versions of thier Sisyphus Barley wine. Drinkable but expected better.

Pours a golden color with a lacy white head. Notes of honey, corn, fresh air, and lemon.

Pours hazy light amber with a dense white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast and spice. Taste is similar with more of a bready maltiness.

Bottle:   Bright straw, sediment floating about, thin to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet pale breadiness, a touch of honey graham cracker and pale citrus bits on the nose.   Soft sweet bready malts up front, pale bready malts, not the whole wheat kind.   A touch of honey.   Low bitterness, hides the 9.3% ABV fairly well.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Soft warming bready finish.   Pretty simple, decent, but nothing as complex as I was hoping.   Tiz fairly clean tho.   Thanks Bill!

Extra from a trade with Errl. Thanks, man! Poured light orange gold...quite light for a barleywine. Nose of floral, hops, wheat and caramel. Flavor much the same with sweet middle and bitter hoppy finish. Different.

12 ounce bottle thanks to errl. Poured into a brandy snifter. Hazy, lighter copper with a thin white, bubbly head of foam. Not much retention. Aroma is bready, estery, and spicy. Tastes pretty sweet and malt forward, but still has a big fruity, hop profile without much of the bitterness. The alcohol burn waits til it’s down your throat before kicking in. Not bad, but I think I waited too long to drink this one.

Got in a trade with Cyde. 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 12/30/2013. Pours hazy and cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of orange zest, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, honey, bread, light pine, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes; with fairly weak strength. Taste of big orange zest, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange rind, tangerine, floral, honey, bread, pine, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, floral, pine, honey, bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a very nice malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a slick and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice blonde barleywine. Good balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; and quite smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
