crizay (1056), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Mar 4, 2008 Thanks lb4lb. Very dark brown pour with small white head. Aroma is some coffee and caramel. Flavor is very dry and chalky but has subtle roasted malts, slight caramel and a touch of coffee. But there is a chalkiness that really lingers and kills the flavors otherwise it would’ve tasted great.
Snojerk321 (714), San Diego, California, USA May 4, 2008 12oz bottle. Deep amber with a big and active head. Lively carbonation; light body. Light caramel malts. Light and flowery hops. Had some zinginess, too, but bitterness was mild. Very small hint of sourness was kind of nice.
BeerBelcher (674), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2008 I was pleasantly surprised by this beer - it is a bit nutty and offered lots of nice caramel-ness while still being quite drinkable on a humid spring evening in Houston.
Color was a clean-looking but not exactly clear brown color, with a short-lived fizzy head that I’ve seen on other beers from this brewery. Aroma was surprisingly pronounced and malty. Flavor was caramel, a bit of nuttiness, and some chocolate. Mouthfeel was a bit on the thin side, but quite refreshing.
Not bad - I wouldn’t swim oceans or cross deserts to get it, but I thought it to be pretty good.
I had this on-tap at the Houston Flying Saucer Draught Emporium. Soonah (406), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Apr 27, 2008 Poured a mostly clear brown with a short, fizzy white head that produced minimal lacing. The aroma was caramel malt, light chocolate and maybe a whiff of smoke. The flavor was nice. Thick smoke mixed with caramel malt and light chocolate. Some light spicy hops mixed in towards the finish. Decent mouthfeel. Not bad. Droptank (29), Spring, Texas, USA Apr 23, 2008 I thought this beer tasted like burnt wood. I would have to say that I was let down. Ibrew2or3 (1443), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Apr 22, 2008 12oz bottle courtesy of l4lb, thanks. It pours deep amber with infra red edges and tan head. In the aroma I get rich roasted malts, a hint of smoked malts and some faint fruity esters. The taste is much the same with rich roasted malts which seem to be a mixture of medium and highly roasted malts. I also get a faint smoke malt note to go along with more roasted malts, a hint of caramel and faint malt astringency into the finish.
