COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberly, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style trippel. Brewed in the traditional manner, Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale. ABV: 8.1%, IBU: 36, OG(plato): 18

Nice appearance: orange color and sticky white head/lace. Sweet malt and Belgian spice erupt from the nose. Both seep onto my palate, not too sweet or spicy thankfully. Carb is right on for the style but still kinda high for me. A solid Tripel.

Hobby... Fruity and yeasty nose with some spice... Cloudy orange small head spotty lace... Mid plus sweet, similar to nose... Medium body, tingly feel, spice on finish... Solid tripel.

Pint on tap. Very impressed with this beer. I agree with the description, it is very traditional. Thatís a compliment, considering how hard it is to find a decent american-made Tripel! Itís honey-clored and sightly cloudy with a good collar and no head or lacing. Almost creamy body, but a with a bitter kick and lingering aftertaste. Good stuff all around.

Solid malt-forward, low-carb, slightly spicy tripel. Definitely an American interpretation - this just doesnít have the brightness or effervescence of a real Belgian tripel. Not bad, though.

Bottle from Secret Santa 2013 Summer, A pleasing belgian tripel nothing out of line here, smooth spicy easy to drink.. really a nice gateway tripel, unfortunately I donít much care for the style but this was definitely drinkable.

On tap at Meddlesome Moth in Dallas. Pour is slightly hazy yellow with a frothy white head and great lacing. Clove, banana, doughy, citrusy, grassy, bready, and floral aroma. Taste is white pepper, coriander, clove, banana, orange, bready, straw, and biscuit with a medium spicy finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Really nice tripel.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head and some lacing. It has a great aroma of biscuit, earthy hops, and some malt and dark fruit. The flavor is malt and bread up front with a sweet middle and yeasty, malty finish over a medium body and lots of carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tripel wise I donít think it was real outstanding in appearance, hazy tan with a 1 finger head that quickly settled to a white sheen, but the lacing was pretty good. Taste and aroma had plenty of tripel qualities, Belgian yeast, cloves, banana, spices. A slight crispness enhances the flavors, itís a bit more drinkable than a typical tripel. Alcohol is only noticeable on the way down as it warms slightly. Body is medium to working on being full, carbonation is fairly low for a tripel, but by no means is it flat. Itís tasty. I donít personally think itís RABCís best, but then they have made quite a few beers that I really enjoy, so itís a bit hard to choose. OK itís still a tie between four squared and altbier, if you force me to tell. But the Devilís backbone is pretty good too.

Bottle at Buffalo Wild Wings, Houston Hobby, 22/05/13. Hazed orange golden. Nose is dark fruits, caramel, light spice. Taste comprises sugars, dark bitter fruit, spice, dates, sultanas, toffee. Medium bodied with added ooomph, fine carbonation, light booze notes in the finish. Ok tripel, picks the style out but no world beater by any means.
