COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberly, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style trippel. Brewed in the traditional manner, Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale. ABV: 8.1%, IBU: 36, OG(plato): 18

Pours cloudy golden with a thin off-white head. Nose is serious Belgian candy with a faint yeasty tang, apricot, orange peel. Flavor sweet but balanced. A very creamy, satisfying mouthfeel. Good.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a well retained, tiny bubbled ivory head, over a slightly hazy gold (SRM 5) body.....nose is light citrus (orange, lemon) from the esters, light pepper, hints of hops.....taste is light citrus, hints of pepper, light spice, with a moderate spice hop bitter finish....mouth feel light of medium, slight alcohol warmth, carbonation makes a tingle and light acid finish. This is a fairly typical example of the style. The esters and spices are a bit low and perhaps a yeast change would correct this. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

12oz H.E.B. Tomball TX Strong aroma of yeast of banana fruit and much spice. Huge off white head of foam on top a deep yellow color, thick fine bubbles. And strong beer flavor with spicy lite malt , bitter taste ending with slight astringence. Good trippel, with a stronger than normal spicy-ness. Very drinkable, not Bad nor evil - but good.

Bottle. Amber beer with a whitish head. Yeast and fruity estery aroma. Yeast and light malt flavor with fruity esters. Medium bodied. Fruity esters and light yeast linger with light malt and light spice.

This is one of my favorites. I have also discovered that I am fond of most tripels. Pours a nice light gold with a nice sweet aroma. It feels great in my mouth and ends with no bitterness. The sweetness is perfect. I could session with this if it were not for the higher abv. Great stuff!

Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a white head. Nose is sweet and malty with a bit of spice and Belgium yeast. Nice sweet fruit flavor with some of that spice from the nose. Medium mouth feel. Another solid beer from Real Ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured a slightly hazy golden hue w/ thin white fully diminishing head and some lacing. Moderate sweet yeasty aroma. Initial flavor is bold sweet w/ a moderate sour finish of short duration. Tastes are Belgium yeast, sugar, apricot, and peaches. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, and lively carbonation.

Good beer that was a little off for style in my opinion. Color was a little dark and very cloudy. Taste was borderline syrupy sweet and very thick. Definitely not dry. Definitely boozy though and alcohol packed a punch appropriate to style

Nice appearance: orange color and sticky white head/lace. Sweet malt and Belgian spice erupt from the nose. Both seep onto my palate, not too sweet or spicy thankfully. Carb is right on for the style but still kinda high for me. A solid Tripel.
