COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the scenic ridge that runs between Blanco and Wimberly, Devil's Backbone is a Belgian-style trippel. Brewed in the traditional manner, Czech Saaz hops and Belgian yeast give this ale its distinctive flavor and aroma. Candy sugar made in-house at the brewery adds strength without increasing heaviness. The result is a deceptively strong, pale golden ale. ABV: 8.1%, IBU: 36, OG(plato): 18

12 ounce from Whole Foods Austin. Sugary. Sweet tripel with some banana and spice. Yeast stands out in a fizzy way.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a small foamy head that lasts. Smells of banana, clove and yeast. Tastes of yeast, light hops and malt with some banana and clove. Light alcohol taste. Nice, clean aftertaste. The yeast really makes this beer. Very nice!

Purchased at the flagship Whole Foods in Austin, TX; enjoyed while binge-watching House of Cards. Appearance is a slightly cloudy bright gold with a thin white head that is rather bubbly. Aroma of clove, light hops, Belgian ale yeast, sweetness, and light banana. Taste is pretty decent, sweetness is the primary component with banana notes and light clove. It tastes like banana Laffy Taffy with a touch of spice. Overall decent.

Dated bottle, best by 7/15/14/, well within that date.Pours a 1/2 finger head, and cloudy gold. Less than a finger of white with a hard pour, dissipates fast. Mostly clear thereafter, and mild carbonation. Nose gets heavy sugar and maybe some fruit of apricot and banana. It smells like the commercial description of candi made on site. It is a sweet taste with no presence of the 8.1% alcohol noticeable. Drinks like a sweet liquor in some aspects. Its not very sessionable. It reminds me of a dessert beer, and a far cry from a tripel imperial pale ale. This beer almost tastes like it is adjunct laden with corn its so sweet. Still a very nice tripel variation, and worth a try if you can get it outside of Texas.
