Commercial Description:
Dunkelroggen is fermented with a German hefeweizen strain which gives it the classic banana aroma and flavor. This ale is similar to our Roggenbier, but has a darker color and a more pronounced malt character. It has 35% Weyermann malted rye, which, combined with the German Tettnang hops, give it a refreshing, spicy finish. The amber color comes from Weyermann Vienna and dark Munich malt. ABV: 5.2%, IBU: 9, OG(plato): 12

On tap at brewery on June 27, 2009. A very well done dark, malty, heavy hefe/weizen/ale... a great idea, and a great recipe. Enjoyed in the 103-degree heat of the brewery’s anniversary celebrations. Thumbs up!

On tap at Uncle Billy’s Brew&Que. The smell is wheat, sweet, heavy banana, clove, and rye. The look is clear, orange in color, with a nice off white head. The taste again is banana, rye, wheat, clove, and fruits.

Clear light orange pour. Aroma of hefe but lighter. Taste is very much a banana finish with gentle alcohol nudgings.

Tap at Flying Saucer... Pours a nice, peach tea orange with an earthy, organic aroma of peach bubblegum. Flavor is watered down banana clove tea with a thick, chewy, and lasting mouthfeel. It is a bit of a dropoff from the Roggen, in much the same way that Halloween II is to the original, but it is still tasty.
