3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mostly clear golden/copper pour. Medium white head with some lacing. Hop aroma with rye spiciness. Taste is more malt forward than hops. High crystal malt flavor with rye spiciness finishes with balanced earthy hop flavor. Medium to high carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: hazy translucent pale amber with one finger of creamy light tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: stone and tropical fruit, earthy rye, bready malt, light citrus and floral. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body , moderate carbonation, off-dry lingering bitter and mildly spicy finish. (3/5)
Nice - there’s a definite rye presence that’s very well integrated with the IPA bitterness, such that neither really dominates. Certainly it’s not as heavy-handed or spicy as some rye ales I’ve had. I’m not saying there’s necessarily anything wrong with a spicy rye beer, but this different, more subtle approach makes for an interesting change. Nothing earth-shattering but a nicely quaffable rye. 3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Originally rated on 4/2/08. Never had a rye ale before but it was fairly decent, copper-tanish color. rye and malt scented and flavored, has a little bite to it. I Will probably buy it again.

12oz Flasche. Das Foto hier zeigt das falsche Bier. Hellbraunes Bier. Kräftig fruchtiges Aroma mit Roggen und Sauerteig Noten. Geschmack nach Krustenbrot und bitterer Frucht.

Bottle. Thanks, Nate. Big citrusy, full, and mildy stinky nose. Medium copper color. Light caramel initial flavors, with some peppery rye in mid palate (a light burn), nice late balance. Fruity and flowery from id palate onwards. Thin-medium body. Very nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the local H.E.B. Copper color with some mild head retention. Aroma is a nice amount of fruit and mild hints of spicy rye.
Flavor is a very nice balance of rye malt and nice fruity and floral hops. The balance is really nice here. Seriously, very nice medium body with a mild level of carbonation that gives a smooth texture. And with the 5.6 % it just flys down the throat. Nicely crafted.

Great standard rye IPA. Nothing anyone can ever be mad at you about. Great beer. Drinks well when hot or cold out. Not super hop forward, but just enough bite. Very pleasant and a great standard.

Wish I’d kept a bottle of the old recipe to compare head-to-head. Lots of spicy rye in the aroma and taste. A bit more hoppy and bold than I remember.
