Soonah (490), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Apr 26, 2008 Poured a turbid brown with some lighter copper and ruby highlights. A short, fizzy white head was produced but there was no lacing. The aroma was malty and lightly spicy. The flavor had some nice malts and spices that were cut by the rye. The rye washed over any pine or citrus hops that may have been hiding in there. Made the beer very smooth and drinkable, but also rather boring.
JohnCoyne (63), USA Aug 13, 2008 Cloudy amber toned color. Smells malty and vaguely of citrus. Tastes of rye, followed by malt and hints of hops. Good.
944play (16), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 9, 2008 12oz in bordeaux glass. Deep copper with loose yeast. Tangy citrus and mild toast nose. Clean, sharp, dry. Big, balanced hops. Rye twang is neatly astringent. Hop Rod Lite in the very best sense. I want more -- five gallons more! wickedpete (555), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Aug 7, 2008 Thanks to Ben for this one. One of my favorite Texas beers. It’s been far too long. Cloudy amber body, white head. Aroma of sweet brown sugar and rye. Flavor is bitter and grainy, with a nice dry finish. AndrewKScott (329), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 15, 2008 Ok, I lied in my last review of the Rio Blanco Pale Ale. This is the best thing in Texas. Kind of an amber pour. Taste is rye and hops upfront, mellowing into a fruit, slightly bitter ale with a dry finish. This is very unique and very awesome. Sparky27 (516), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Bockyhorsey. Pours a hazy amber with some floaters. Minimal beige head with spotty lacing. Nose is sweet malt and mellow citrus hops. Taste is definitely rye upfront, some sweet malts and a nice hop finish. Lots of rye in this one! Medium mouth feel. Nice brew. Thanks Bill!
