Sample at Hay Merchant in Houston. The beer is a very dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, oak and vanilla. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt and vanilla. The finish is roasty with a charred malt and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

On tap at the Flying Saucer Eleventeen party. Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of rubbing alcohol, vanilla, roasted malts and a bit of bourbon. Flavor is full of vanilla with a bit of caramel that is backed by roasted malts and a hint of bourbon.

On tap at the Moth. Pours with a black hued body and tan head. Aromas of whiskey, Jack Daniels-esque (as opposed to a richer bourbon character), currants, plums, dark fruits, wood. A bit of sharp tannin, cola. Flavors are a touch watery and thin. Big bourbon, roasted, nutty, walnuts and cola with a dark fruit/stewed prune character. Medium carbonation, somewhat low in body.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a dark brown with small quickly diminishing tan head. Roast and chocolate aroma. Sweet chocolate and light hop with bourbon. Easy to drink, a good porter from Real Ale.

The beer pours a dark brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is very heavy on the oak with some bourbon and vanilla notes. There is no doubt that this is a barrel-aged beer.
The flavor is more of the same with a few additions. I get a little roasted malt and chocolate, but once again there is a ton of flavor imparted from the barrel aging. I get a lot of vanilla, maple, oak and some cinnamon. A very tasty mix of flavors.
Medium mouthfeel and low to medium carbonation.

(draught at Common Table) clear ruby brown, ring of tan bubbles. Nose of bourbon, vanilla, figs, milk chocolate and dark fruits. Taste of raisins, chocolate, Graham cracker, vanilla, and slightly over-ripe dark fruits. Well carbonated and a decent flavored linger. More like a bourbon barrel aged Belgian dark than a porter.

Black pour with a thin fading off white head. Gigantic nose with loads of bourbon and sugary vanilla oak. Flavor has loads of bourbon and sticky dark roast malt, a bit of molasses, loads of charred oak, touch of coffee, dark earthy sweet malt and more bourbon.
