THE BLACK QUAD: an homage to Belgian brewing tradition, with a slight departure. Characteristic of the style are notes of caramel, candi sugar, and dark fruit. Our addition of premium Belgian Black Malt adds a subtle component of dry roastiness for a deliciously dark complexity. 22°

Dark spicy nose. Licorice and plums, some raisin maybe. Fairly complex palate, hints of black licorice but diffused by Blanco style hop action. Very nice job but a beer to save for a bottle maybe twice per year. Dominating sophisticated flavor for specific tastes and times for me. 6 bucks per 22 oz bottle, extremely difficult to find even in its market in Austin. 10.5% bang. A solid punch for the money.

really need to drink this again; my notes are not clear... recall says good quad. Not quite the depth in flavor as the best but dark fruits, toffee is there. . will try again. good price also. RA is putting out quality stuff!

Dark brown with beige head. Dark fruit aroma with some alcohol. Rich, malty flavor. Smooth, despite the strength.

Dark in color, like cola on the edges, tan head, moderate lacing. Aroma of raisin, plum. Flavor followed suit, with a breathy finish, deep malts and a dry finish. Alcohol was well masked. A wonderful take on a style from the best brewery in Texas.

"Another pleasant brew that was closer to the traditional style than I imagined. Dark fruit and light spice on the nose and palate, with a barely descernable hop presence. Finishes slightly dry, spicy, and a little sweet, showing barely any of the abv."

Bottle from Bu11zeye. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of plummy dark fruit, anise, cognac, raisin, molasses raisin cookie, maybe chocolate. Med + body. Flavor is treacle, plum/raisin, chocolate. A little heat. Like barrel aged, tho it isn’t. What a treat. Finishes chocolate cognac.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with an attractive tan head and a roasted treacle and raisin aroma. Smells like it is barrel aged but it isn’t. There is a carbonated chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a dry finish. Don’t know how old this bottle is, but it tastes aged. A nice sipper.

Got this thanks to bleeng, Poured a very muddy brown/black with a head that disappeared pretty quickly. Nose is pretty sweet with fig, date, ripe fruittiness, with the belgian candy sugar telling me that this is gonna be a very sweet beer. Im not surprised by the taste. Very sweet teetering on too sweet. I wish this had a bit more carbonation as it would have improved my rating. Mouthfeel is a bit flat with the sweetness lingering maybe a bit longer then it should. I should have shared this pour with someone as 12 oz is probably more then i really wanted. I think this is a beer that i would have enjoyed a bit fresher but still a solid quad.

From a 12oz bottle thanks to Ratman. Says best by Oct 8, 2013...Edition No 2. Poured into a Great Lakes tulip glass. Pours ruby mahogany with small head and lace. Aroma of biscotti, anise, toffee, milk chocolate. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of a malted milk ball soda with alcohol. There’s dark chocolate, molasses, carob, banana, liquorice, and rum like flavors.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of licorice, grapes, spice, roastiness, yeast, tobacco and light cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of licorice, cocoa, roastiness, yeast, spice and fruitiness with a smooth lingering fruity finish.
