A nice amber pour with an iff white head. The flavor is full of caramel and malt forward with a taste of toasted malt. A full bodied beer that makes waiting for the deer enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle from Spec’s El Paso split 3 ways. Pours a hazy caramel brown color with a small off white head. The aroma is caramel, toffee, some dark fruit and tobacco. The flavor is big malty, caramel, toffee, a light peat, dark fruit, I did get a mineral note, this was ok.

Bottle pour dark copper with moderate ecru head. Nose caramel and toffee, apple, and light dank. Taste sweeter malt up front transition to spicy possible tobacco. Late palate high bitterness. Sweeter finish.

Bottle from the magical place that is Buddy’s Beer Barn (best before MAR 16 2017). Chestnut color with some red highlights, bubbly carbonation and a medium khaki head. Big malty aroma with a hint of booze and simple syrup. Great flavor that starts sweet, has a touch of bitterness and some lingering, menthol-esque smoke deep in the finish. That’s tasty.

Really rich spicy malt aroma. Pours a cloudy brown with some lingering white head. Taste is really big, malty. A little spicy. Has a smoky finish? Some alcohol flavor.

malty, earthy, burned sugar sweet aroma. Pours a murky dark copperish - actually looks kind of thin. Earthy. Sugary. Toffee. Dark fruit. Very light hops on the finish followed by a little bit of booziness. This is pretty good. Nice job, Real Ale. I had low expectations but I’m very pleased with this and will be getting more.

Clear, deep reddish copper with off white head. Aroma of peat and caramel malt. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good one.

Cask pour into a snifter at the Hay Market in Houston, Texas. Dark ruby port color. No head after 5 minutes. Peat note offsets almost dark rum like sweetness. Lovely.

I tried this one back in 2009 and liked that version much better than this one. Aromas and flavors were malt heavy with a peat/ medicinal quailty i didnt remember. The ABV dropped from 9.7% to 9.3% but the alcohol is much more noticeable in the finish. I dont really care for this newer version as much as the older one.
